EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Southeast Missouri women's soccer team (7-3-1, 1-1 OVC) fell 2-0 to SIUE (4-4-2, 2-0 OVC) Sunday afternoon.

Southeast was narrowly outshot in the match, 10-9, but only put three shots on goal to SIUE's six.

The teams combined for a season-high 31 fouls with SIUE being called for 20 of them. There were only three corner kicks in the game, Southeast had one.

Kindra Lierz (7-3-1) suffered the loss in goal after allowing both Cougar goals. Lierz recorded four saves in the match.

Juli Rossi (4-4-1) earned the complete-game shutout while earning three saves.

SIUE took a 1-0 lead in the 35
th minute on Emily Grahl's second goal of the season. Avery Anderson quickly passed to Grahl who shot through a grouping of Redhawks from about 10 yards out and into the left side of the net.

At the end of the first half, SEMO led in shots 5-3, putting one on goal. SIUE put all three of their shots on goal in the half. The teams combined for 13 fouls with SIUE being called for eight.

Twenty-eight seconds into the second half, Peyton Roehnelt extended the Cougar lead to 2-0 on a bullet over Lierz and into the back of the net. Jorie Clawson assisted on the goal.

The Redhawks only took four shots in the second half.

Esmeralda Gonzales led SEMO with three shots, one on goal.
Cassidi Tomsu had two shots with one on goal.

The Redhawks will return to Houck Stadium for a pair of matches next week. Reigning OVC champions Murray State come to town for a 7 p.m. showdown on Friday. Then, the Redhawks will play host to Austin Peay at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
