MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Head Southeast Missouri women's soccer coach
Heather Nelson earned her 200
th career victory Sunday afternoon when the Redhawks picked up a 1-0 win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2-1-1).
Nelson is 200-151-45 in her 22-year career as a head coach. Nelson led Florida State to a 31-44-5 record in four seasons (1995-98). In 18 years at Southeast, Nelson has guided the Redhawks to a 169-107-40 record while winning five Ohio Valley Conference regular season titles and making two NCAA Women's College Cup appearances.Â
The Redhawks remain perfect on the season at 4-0 and finish their Wisconsin road trip 2-0.
"Our players were in a great frame of mind going into the game. It was exciting to play in front of so many family and friends from Wisconsin," Nelson began. "Maggie got us off to a great start with a blast that hit side netting. After the goal, Milwaukee pushed hard for the equalizer, but Kindra was outstanding in goal and shut down anything the Panthers threw her way."

Southeast ends Milwaukee's 13-game unbeaten streak dating back to last season. The streak tied a school record and the Panthers went 9-0-4 over the period.

Maggie Pike earned her first career goal in the fourth minute of the match, putting the Redhawks out to a very early 1-0 lead. Pike took the assist from
Natasha Minor and
Jasmin Hilliard and chipped the ball over the keeper and into the top right corner of the net. Â

The Redhawks were able to fend off a myriad of Panther shots the remaining 86 minutes to pick up the victory.

The Redhawks were heavily outshot in the match, 19-6, but both team managed to put four shots on goal apiece. Â

Kindra Lierz (4-0) earned the solo shutout in goal for SEMO. She played the full 90 minutes and picked up four saves. The solo shutout is Lierz's 19
th of her career and the win is her 23
rd.

Mallory Geurts suffered the loss in goal for the Panthers. Geurts played 81:19 before being relieved in goal. She picked up three saves and allowed Pike's goal.

Pike led the Redhawks with two shots, putting both on goal.

Jennifer Brien all had a shot in the match.

Five total field players played the entire 90 minutes of the match for Southeast. Once again, all seven Wisconsin natives played in the match, including five starting.

Southeast Missouri returns to action Sunday, Sept. 4 at Evansville. The Redhawks and Purple Aces kick off at 7 p.m.
