GREEN BAY, Wis. – Senior forward and Green Bay, Wisconsin native
Natasha Minor netted the game-winning goal with three seconds left in overtime to lift Southeast Missouri soccer to a 1-0 victory over Wisconsin-Green Bay (0-2-1) Thursday.
The Redhawks improve to a perfect 3-0 on the season. It's only the second time Southeast has opened the season with three-straight wins. Southeast Missouri opened the 2001 season 9-0, finishing 16-2 on the season.
Minor's goal is the second this season for the senior and the 18
th of her career. She moves into a four-way tie for fifth on Southeast's career goals scored list. The goal is Minor's sixth career game-winner.
All seven Wisconsin natives on the Redhawks' roster saw playing time in Thursday's match. Of SEMO's 11 total shots, Wisconsin natives were responsible for 10.
Paige Blankenheim led the way in shots for the Redhawks with three while
Jennifer Brien had two in her NCAA debut, putting both on goal.
Kindra Lierz (3-0) played all 100 minutes in goal in the shutout. She faced only one shot on goal in the match, recording the save. The solo shutout is the 18
th of her career.
Courtney Klatt (0-2-1) played the entire match in goal for Green Bay. She had three saves in the loss.
The Redhawks and Phoenix played a scoreless opening 45 minutes. Southeast led in shots 3-1. Southeast had the first three shots of the game including the first two coming from Wisconsin natives
Kaitlin Kuznacic and Blankenheim. Neither team put a shot on goal in the half.
Southeast strung together four corner kick opportunities in the opening half while Green Bay had one.
In her NCAA debut, Brien put the Redhawks' first shot on goal in the 49
th minute. Brien was responsible for the Redhawks' second shot on goal in the 86
th minute.
Shay Darga got a last-chance shot she put on goal with a minute-thirty remaining but Klatt came up with the save to send the match into overtime.
SEMO led in shots 10-3 in regulation with three shots on goal to Green Bay's one.
At the end of regulation, Southeast was called for 10 fouls and was called offsides six times. The Redhawks had six corner kick opportunities while the Phoenix has none.
With just seconds left in overtime, Minor chipped a shot over Klatt that found the back of the net to end the match and lift the Redhawks to the 1-0 victory.
SEMO finished with 11 shots in the match with four on goal. The Redhawks had nine corner kicks while the Phoenix had two.
Lauryn Delzer had two of Green Bay's three total shots in the game, while putting one on goal.
Southeast Missouri will play at Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Sunday at 12 p.m., noon. Sunday's match will be streamed live on ESPN3.
