CHARLESTON, Ill. – Southeast Missouri (15-32, 9-16) fell to Eastern Illinois (22-25, 16-7), 4-3, Saturday.
Â
A one-out solo home run by April Markowski was the difference in EIU's game one victory.
Â
Southeast trailed, 3-0, before scoring once in the fifth and tying things up on a two-run homer by
Brittany Stevens in the top of the sixth. Stevens smacked her third round-tripper of the season over the left field wall to make it a 3-3 contest.
Â
Markowski then broke the deadlock when she drove
Madeline Krumrey's pitch over the left center fence.
Â
The Redhawks threatened during their final at-bat in the seventh when
Darby Pruett reached on a leadoff double to right center. Nothing would come of that, as
Nicole Deering and
Claire Wernig each hit into a fielder's choice, and
Harli Wheeler fouled out.
Â
Jessica Wireman (16-17) went the distance, striking out nine and walking three in her complete game win. Wireman also allowed three runs on five hits.
Â
Krumrey (5-14) took the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings.
Â
EIU outhit Southeast, 7-5, with Kylie Bennett, Markowski and Ashlynne Paul contributing two hits each.
Â
Wernig went 2-for-4 with one RBI to lead the Redhawks.
The Redhawks and Panthers will wrap up their series with a doubleheader at Noon, CT, Sunday.
