
Men in First, Women Fifth After Day One of OVC Outdoor Championships

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri's track & field teams completed the opening the day the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Tennessee State Friday afternoon.
At the end of day one, the men's team currently leads the competition with 69.5 points as Eastern Kentucky trails in second with 48. The women's team ends the first day in fifth place with 28 points as Eastern Illinois leads with 70.
Duncan Ross was the first Redhawk to medal on the day, taking third in the pole vault with a height of 4.41m.
Sierra Maddox placed fourth on the women's end of pole vault at 3.44m. Haley Holton also earned points for Southeast in the event, taking seventh at 3.29m.
Taylor Coffelt was able to capture gold in the women's javelin with her top toss measuring 40.78m.
Jason Walker set a new personal record in men's javelin, taking gold with a distance of 56.21m. Ross followed closely in second, earning silver with his own personal record of 55.76m. Andrew Ryan also pointed in fourth place with a toss of 54.54m.
Kevin Farley and Walker were able to claim first and second, respectively, in the discus throw. Farley's top throw measuring in at 53.30m while Walker's traveled 52.46m, a new personal best. Stephen Zagurski also set a personal record with a throw of 45.62m in seventh.
In the men's 3000m steeplechase, Jace Mortimer finished eighth with a time of 9:27.87.
Chante Mosby claimed third in the women's high jump with a jump measuring 1.75m, a new personal best. Dalton Huffman tied for sixth on the men's side of the competition with a height of 1.96m.
Four different Redhawks earned points in the men's long jump. Zach Gordon medaled, taking third with a distance of 7.35m. He was followed by Jacob Kent in fourth (7.28m), Chris Martin in seventh (7.10m) and Tre Curry in eighth (7.02m).
In the final men's event of the day, Craig Munie ran a 30:58.04 to place sixth in the 10,000m run. Sydney O'Brien claimed fourth on the women's side with a time of 37:11.57.
The first half of the men's decathlon wrapped up with Christopher Davis in first place (3604 points) and Ross in sixth (2870). Davis took first in the 100m dash, shot put and 400m dash during the event.
In the women's heptathlon, Macy Ritter is third with 2979 points while Coffelt closely trails in fourth (2902). Coffelt claimed first in the shot put while Ritter registered three top-three finishes.
In preliminary events, Jarred Pasley clocked the best 400m dash time in 47.35 seconds. Jordan Barber (48.17), Brannon Wright (48.23) and Brandon Chunn (48.70) finished third through fifth, respectively.
Cheyanne Tunti qualified for the finals on the women's side of the 400m, earning the third best time of 54.47.
Haile Wilson (10.69) and Mariam Ajiroba (11.92) each took third in their respective 100m dash qualifiers and advance to the final tomorrow. Ajiroba also was successful in qualifying during the women's 200m with a time of 24.61 in seventh.
Megan Parks earned the top qualifying time in the women's 800m run at 2:09.97. Jordan Brown took sixth in the men's qualifier, registering a time of 1:51.65.
Miya Dorsey finished sixth in the 400m hurdles qualifier.
Wright (21.44) and Gordon (21.63) both clocked qualifying times in the 200m dash.
