CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (15-31, 9-15) belted a season-high eight doubles en route to getting head coach
Mark Redburn his 200th career victory with a 7-4 win over Austin Peay (8-36, 4-20) Saturday.
Southeast claimed its third series victory of the season in its home finale.
The Redhawks jumped all over APSU starting pitcher Natalie Ayala putting up three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Claire Wernig led things off with a single, stole second and scored on a double to left center by
Harli Wheeler.
Savannah Carpenter followed with a walk before
Abby Tillotson knocked in Wheeler on a sacrifice fly and
Danielle Turner doubled home Carpenter to give Southeast a 3-0 advantage.
Southeast tacked on another run in each of the next three innings. Wheeler drove in Wernig on a two-out double in the second inning, Tillotson brought in
Haylee Krack when she doubled down the left field line in the third and
Sarah Messex scored on a single by Wernig with no outs in the fourth.
APSU, after getting on the board with a three-run home run by Carly Mattson in the top of the fourth, sliced Southeast's lead to 6-4 on a one-out sacrifice fly by Niya Sparks during its at-bat in the fifth.
The Redhawks, however, countered with an infield single by Krack to widen their lead to 7-4 in the borrom of the sixth.
Madeline Krumrey relieved
Aubrey Denno in the sixth inning and all six APSU hitters she faced to pick up her team-high second save. Krumrey did not allow a hit and struck out three in her strong outing.
Denno (1-1) was credited with her first win of the season after giving up a run on two hits in 1.2 relief innings. Freshman
Haley Thogmartin started the game, working 3.1 innings with three strikeouts.
Ayala (2-11) suffered the loss. She gave up nine hits and six runs, while walking one and recording a strikeout in three innings.
Southeast outhit APSU, 12-5, collecting double-digit hits for the second-straight game.
Wernig went a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, three stolen bases and one RBI. Her four hits and three stolen bases were career-highs. Wheeler, Krack and Messex followed with two hits apiece.
The Redhawks close out their regular-season with a three-game series at Eastern Illinois on May 7-8.
