EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIU Edwardsville (12-16, 6-4) scored four runs in the fifth inning to get by Southeast Missouri (11-17, 5-5), 5-3, Sunday afternoon at Cougar Field.

SIUE completed a three-game sweep of Southeast with its come-from-behind win.

Southeast pulled ahead, 3-0, after scoring once in the fourth and twice in the fifth.

Mackenize Hoelting singled home
Darby Pruett in the fourth inning and
Riley Hayes delivered a two-run homer with two outs in the top of the fifth. For Hayes, it was her first home run of the season.

SIUE, however, answered with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth.

Alyssa Heren hit a two-run home run, and both Tess Eby and Rachel Keller delivered run-scoring hits to put the Cougars ahead, 4-3.

SIUE tacked on another run in the sixth to polish off its victory.

Baylee Douglass (7-6) picked up the win after allowing three runs on six hits in seven innings. Douglas struck out four and walked three, as well.

Madeline Krumrey (5-6) suffered the loss. Krumrey gave up eight hits and four runs in 4.1 innings. She also struck out one and issued a walk.

Claire Wernig went 2-for-4 to lead Southeast.

Heren and Jordan LaFave had two hits each to pave the way for SIUE.

Southeast returns home to host Arkansas in a doubleheader on Apr. 6. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m., CT.
