Redhawks Fall to Missouri State, 9-3

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Kaitlin Beason hit two home runs, had five RBIs and earned the win inside the circle to lead Missouri State (9-7) to a 9-3 victory over Southeast Missouri (3-7) Saturday morning at the Cancer Awareness Tournament.

Haylee Krack gave Southeast an early 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. Krack homered for the third time this season and first time in back-to-back games since 2014.

After cutting the Redhawks lead in half with a run in the second, Beason hit a grand slam off Haley Thogmartin to key a five-run, five-hit third inning. Southeast also committed two errors, as the Bears took their first lead at 6-2.

The Redhawks added another run when Danielle Turner touched home on a Sarah Messex groundout to short in the bottom of the fifth, but that was the last of their scoring.

MSU then tacked on two more runs courtesy of a Darian Frost home run to polish off its victory in the seventh.

Beason improved to 4-1 after giving up three runs on five hits in five innings. Erin Struemph did not allow a hit in two scoreless innings.

Thogmartin (2-4) allowed six runs on six hits, walked one and struck out two in three innings. Mackenzie Hoelting tossed four relief innings, giving up three runs on six hits.

MSU outhit Southeast, 12-5, with Beason (2) and Frost (3) accounting for five of the hits.

Krack, Harli Wheeler, Claire Wernig, Riley Hayes and Brittany Stevens each recorded a hit for the Redhawks.

Southeast faces Northern Illinois at 3 p.m., CT.
