Strong OVC Start
Southeast swept Tennessee State (Mar. 26), 7-2, 9-0 (5 innings), in a doubleheader prior to Easter and, as a result, improved to 5-2 in Ohio Valley Conference play this season. The Redhawks currently fourth in the OVC standings, last started league play with wins in five of their first seven conference games in 2011. It is also the best league start since Southeast went 12-1 in 2006.

Series Wins
The Redhawks finished March with an 8-8 record, 5-2 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play and three series wins. Southeast posted series victories at Jackson State (2-0) on Mar. 15, vs. Murray State (2-1) on Mar. 19-20 and vs. Tennessee State (2-0) on Mar. 26. The Redhawks won five of their last eight contests.

Series History
Southeast is 19-31 all-time against SIU Edwardsville. The Redhawks are looking to end a nine-game losing streak in the series after beign swept by SIUE in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Southeast was outscored, 82-11, in the previous nine matchups between these teams. The Redhawks last won a series in Edwardsville, Illinois during the 2011 season.

Midway Point
The Redhawks are 11-14 overall and 5-2 in Ohio Valley Conference play halfway through the 2016 season. At this point last year, Southeast was 6-18 and 2-7 against league foes. The Redhawks are gunning for their first winning season since 2011 (31-30, 17-12 OVC).

Happy 1,000th
Southeast celebrated its 1,000th win in softball program history when it blanked Tennessee State, 9-0, in five innings on Mar. 26. The Redhawks have an all-time record of 1,000-834-3 since softball began in 1977. Southeast teams compiled 30 or more wins in a total of 15 seasons between the NCAA Division I and Division II ranks combined during that span.

Mr. Milestone
Mark Redburn has been part of two milestone wins and is approaching another in two seasons as Southeast's head coach. Most recently, Redburn led the Redhawks to their 1,000th victory in program history, a 9-0 win over Tennessee State on Mar. 26. Prior to that, Redburn picked up his 100th career NCAA Division I win with a 4-3 victory over Southern Illinois on Apr. 8, 2015. Now, Redburn is just four wins away from getting 200 in his college head coaching career which includes a total of 12 seasons.

Home Cooking
Southeast won five of its first seven games at home and currently has the third-most home victories in the Ohio Valley Conference this season. The Redhawks are 5-2 at the Southeast Softball Complex after taking two of three games from Murray State on Mar. 19-20, splitting a doubleheader with Belmont on Mar. 25 and sweeping Tennessee State in a doubleheader on Mar. 26. The Redhawks had no more than six home wins each of the last two seasons and are off to their best home start since 2006 (5-2).

First baseman Savannah Carpenter hit safely in six of her first seven Ohio Valley Conference starts. Carpenter, who had multiple-hits in four of those contests, is hitting .579 (11-for-19) with four runs scored, two doubles, a home run, eight RBIs and 16 total bases against league foes. She also boasts a .842 slugging percentage and .619 on-base percentage. Wernig Leads Redhawks
Outfielder Claire Wernig is Southeast's top hitter for the third-straight week. Wernig is hitting .361 with a team-high 30 hits and 20 runs scored in 25 starts. She is one of three Redhawks who started every game this season and one of four players hitting over .300 this year. Wernig looks to extend a six-game hitting streak this weekend, longest of any Southeast player in 2016.

Batting Average Climbs
Southeast has boosted its batting average by 29 points since the start of Ohio Valley Conference play on Mar. 19. The Redhawks entered their OVC-opener hitting .251 and has since pushed their average to a season-high .280. Southeast ranks third in the league in batting average behind Eastern Kentucky (.322) and Jacksonville State (.313).

Thogmartin Undefeated in OVC Play
Freshman pitcher Haley Thogmartin is undefeated at 3-0 through four appearances and three starts in Ohio Valley Conference play. Thogmartin also tossed a shutout and two complete games against league foes. She owns a 2.17 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 19.1 innings as one of four pitchers currently unbeaten in conference play. The others are Jacksonville State's Whitney Gillespie (4-0), Eastern Kentucky's Hayley Flynn (4-0) and Morehead State's Mackenzie Grossmann (3-0).

Redhawk Shutouts
Southeast posted shutouts in two of its last four games. The Redhawks opened their doubleheader against Belmont (Mar. 25) with a 3-0 win, holding their opponent scoreless for the first time this season. A day later, Southeast beat Tennessee State, 9-0, in five innings during game two of a doubleheader. The pair of shutouts last week matched the Redhawks entire total from last season.
