CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri baseball (14-8) improved its winning streak to four games Tuesday with an 18-10 win over Harris-Stowe (10-16).
The Redhawks scored a season-high 18 runs and tied a season-high 16 hits. The Redhawks were led by
Ryan Rippee and
Trevor Ezell, each putting up three hits. Rippee's three hits were all doubles, tying a school record for doubles in a game. Rippee drove in five runs on his three doubles.
Alex Siddle (1-1) earned the win as he was the pitcher of record when Southeast took a lead in the fifth inning. Siddle was the third pitcher used by the Redhawks in the game.
Matthew Wade threw two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit Tuesday. In all, six Redhawk pitchers were used in the game.
Ezell and
Hunter Leeper hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the bottom of the first to put the Redhawks on top early, 2-0.
A six-run third inning by Harris-Stowe opened a 6-2 lead on Southeast. The Hornets scored their first two runs on back-to-back bases-loaded walks, tying the game. A two-RBI single up the middle by Gasberth Pacheco gave HSSU a 4-2 lead. A groundout and a passed ball on a strikeout in the dirt scored two more runs for the Hornets, 6-2.
Southeast wasted no time cutting the lead in the bottom of the third. Rippee doubled down the left field line to score
Branden Boggetto and
Dan Holst, narrowing the deficit to 6-4.
Chris Caffrey singled to right to bring Rippee home and make it a one-run game, 6-5.
An RBI single by Andres Alburjas widened the Hornet lead back to two, 7-5, in the top of the fourth.
A safety squeeze bunt by Holst scored
Daniel Costello to make it a one-run game again, 7-6, in the bottom of the inning.
Garrett Gandolfo doubled to center field to plate two more runs and give the Redhawks an 8-6 lead.
Jordan Weaks plated Tyler Schatz in the top of the fifth to retie the game, 8-8.
Costello doubled in Caffrey to put the Redhawks back on top in the bottom of the inning, 9-8.
Southeast broke open a 14-8 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Rippee doubled to left center to plate Gandolfo with one out. A two-RBI single by Ezell pushed two runs across followed by a two-RBI triple by
Hunter Leeper brought the Redhawk lead to 14-8 after six innings.
Rippee tied the school record with his third double of the game in the seventh inning to plate Gandolfo and Boggetto. A sacrifice fly off the bat of
Scott Mitchell made it 17-8 going to the eighth.
Zach Jones scored on a passed ball in the top of the ninth inning to chip into the lead, 17-9.
Holst hit his first Redhawk home run in the bottom of the eighth to bring the lead back to nine, 18-9.
The fourth home run of the game came in the top of the ninth off the bat of Jonathan Alvarez brought the final score to 18-10.
Including Rippee and Ezell, five total Redhawks had a multi-hit game while five had multi-RBI performances.
Three Hornet hitters each had a two-hit game Tuesday.
Southeast Missouri will open a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at UT Martin Thursday. First pitch Thursday is set for 6 p.m.
