Tournament ActionSoutheast participates in its third tournament this season when it heads two hours north to St. Louis this weekend. The Redhawks are 3-6 in tournament play after opening the year at the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama (Feb. 12-14) and taking part in the Holiday Inn Spring Fling in Bowling Green, Kentucky (Feb. 26-28).
Cancer Awareness Tournament SlateThe Redhawks face in-state rival Missouri State (11 a.m.) and Mid-American Conference member Northern Illinois (3 p.m.) during the opening day of the Cancer Awareness Tournament Saturday. Southeast then squares off against UMKC (11 a.m.) and host Saint Louis (3 p.m.) Sunday.
Series HistorySoutheast is a combined 84-59 against this year's Cancer Awareness Tournament field. The Redhawks are 70-26 all-time against Saint Louis, 9-29 against Missouri State, 4-3 against UMKC and 1-1 vs. Northern Illinois. Southast faces NIU for the first time since 1998 and last played UMKC in 2012. Meanwhile, Southeast went 1-2 against Saint Louis and 1-1 against Missouri State last season.
Road StretchThe Redhawks play their first 13 games of the 2016 season outside of Cape Girardeau. After this weekend's tournament, Southeast hosts the Southeast Games during its home-opening weekend on Mar. 12-13. Bradley University and Eastern Illinois will also participate.
Winning StreakSoutheast closed out its first month of the season with back-to-back wins at the Holiday Inn Spring Fling in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The Redhawks beat Valparaiso, 3-2, on Feb. 27 and host Western Kentucky, 8-3, on Feb. 28 for their first winning streak this year.

Danielle Turner drove in the winning run on a double in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving Southeast a 3-2 victory over Valparaiso on Feb. 27.
Claire Wernig drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on Turner's extra base hit, as the Redhawks won in walk-off fashion for the first time this year.
Redhawks Down Western KentuckySoutheast recorded a 2-2 record at the Holiday Inn Spring Fling (Feb. 26-28) last weekend. The Redhawks finished the event with an 8-3 win over host Western Kentucky Sunday. Southeast broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the third inning and never looked back. The eight runs and eight hits were both the second-most in a game for the Redhawks this season.
Krumrey Picks Up First WinMadeline Krumrey picked up her first win in the circle this season after allowing three hits, a run and striking out seven in four innings against Western Kentucky (Feb. 28). Krumrey evened her record to 1-1 in five appearances and four starts. The victory also marked the 14th of Krumrey's career.
Krack DeliversHaylee Krack's three-run home run keyed Southeast's big third inning against Western Kentucky (Feb. 28). Krack leads the Redhawks in home runs (2), slugging percentage (.696) and RBIs (6) through nine starts this season. She also ranks second on the team in batting average (.348) and was hit by a pitch a team-high four times. Krack is third in the Ohio Valley Conference in slugging percentage, as well.

Eight MoreThe Redhawks need eight wins to reach 1,000 in their softball program's history. Southeast has compiled 992 wins since its softball program began in 1977. Redhawk teams compiled 30 or more wins in a total of 15 seasons between the NCAA Division I and Division II ranks combined.
Road to 200Southeast head coach
Mark Redburn is 12 wins away from getting 200 in his career. Redburn is currently 188-260 in 12 years as a head coach. He compiled 22 wins at Southeast (2015-present), 90 at Evansville (2010-2014), 49 at Jefferson College (2005-2006) and 27 at St. Charles Community College (2002-2004).
Wheeler Paves the WayNortheastern Oklahoma A&M transfer
Harli Wheeler is Southeast's leading hitter after nine games this season. Wheeler is currently hitting .350 (7-for-20) with four runs scored and a team-high three doubles. She hit .455 (5-for-11) with three runs scored and a pair of doubles at the Sand Dollar Classic (Feb. 12-14). Wheeler was a two-year starter at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M prior to Southeast.
Carpenter Cleared to Play This WeekendSenior starting first baseman
Savannah Carpenter has been cleared to play this weekend after missing the last two games with a concussion. Carpenter suffered her injury on a collision at first base during Southeast's 6-3 loss to Ball State on Feb. 26. She made 74-consecutive starts, including 45 games at third base, 28 at first and one at designated player prior to the injury. It marked the first time Carpenter was out of the starting lineup since Mar. 29, 2014 (vs. Austin Peay).
Among OVC LeadersAs a team, Southeast ranks among the top five Ohio Valley Conference leaders in slugging percentage (5th, .351), fewest walks allowed (3rd, 28) and batters struck out looking (3rd, 16). Individually,
Haylee Krack is third among league leaders in slugging percentage (.696) and hit by pitch (4),
Harli Wheeler is tied for second in sacrifice bunts (4) and
Madeline Krumrey is fourth in batters struck out looking (10).
On DeckThe Redhawks play host to the Southeast Games on Mar. 12-13 at the Southeast Softball Complex. Southeast, Eastern Illinois and Bradley will participate in the two-day event. The Redhawks face Bradley (1 p.m.) and EIU (3 p.m.) Saturday, and Bradley (2 p.m.) again on Sunday.
