BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Junior
Danielle Turner drove in the winning run on a double in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving Southeast Missouri (2-6) a 3-2 victory over Valparaiso (0-8) Saturday at the Holiday Inn Spring Fling.
Claire Wernig drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on Turner's extra base hit, as Southeast won in walk-off fashion for the first time this season.
The Redhawks held a 2-0 lead after five innings when Valpo came back to tie the game in the top of the sixth.
Taylor Lawson led off the inning with an infield single and Stephanie Moreno followed with a base hit to give the Crusaders runners at the corners.
Valpo then executed a double steal to bring Lawson home for its first run of the game. Later in the inning, Moreno scored the tying run on an error.
Freshman
Haley Thogmartin (2-3) picked up the win in relief. Thogmartin, credited with both of Southeast's wins this season, struck out two and allowed a hit in two scoreless innings.
Sierra Pico (0-5) suffered the loss.
The Redhawks posted four hits with
Harli Wheeler,
Darby Pruett, Turner and
Haylee Krack getting one apiece.
Valpo finished with seven hits, all of which came from the top four hitters in its lineup.
Southeast concludes play at the Holiday Inn Spring Fling against host Western Kentucky on Sunday. Game time is 11:45 a.m., CT.
