Redhawks Down Western Kentucky, 8-3

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Haylee Krack hit a three-run home run to help lift Southeast Missouri (3-6) to an 8-3 win over Western Kentucky (7-5) at the Holiday Inn Spring Fling Sunday.

Southeast, which won its second game in a row, finished 2-2 at the weekend tournament which also featured Western Carolina and Valparaiso. The Redhawks' eight runs and eight hits were both their second-most in a game through nine contests this season.

Krack broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the third inning when she launched her second home run of the season over the center field wall. Danielle Turner reached on an infield single and Darby Pruett was hit by a pitch before Krack belted her three-run bomb. Brittany Stevens later scored on a fielder's choice to give Southeast a 5-1 lead.

The Redhawks tacked on another run in the fourth when Claire Wernig touched home by way of Turner's two-out sacrifice fly.

Pruett and Sarah Messex each delivered RBI-hits to finish off the Hilltoppers in the seventh inning.

Turner went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI to lead Southeast. Wernig, Pruett, Krack, Messex, Stevens and Riley Hayes followed with one hit each. Krack recorded her second round-tripper of the season.

Madeline Krumrey (1-1) picked up her first win of the year, allowing three hits, a run and striking out seven in four innings. Krumrey also walked four.

Kelsey Jernigan (0-2) suffered the loss. Jernigan gave up five runs on four hits in just 2.2 innings.

Lexie Norfleet and Carleigh Chaumont had two hits apiece to lead WKU.

Southeast returns to action at the All-Missouri Cancer Classic on Mar. 5-6.
