Southeast Missouri volleyball will play host to UT Martin on Tuesday to begin the final week of the regular season. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. from Houck Field House.
Prior to Redhawks volleyball, the women's basketball team will play its lone exhibition at 5 p.m. at the Show Me Center. Fans who attend the SEMO women's basketball game will receive free admission to the volleyball match that follows.
Scouting the Skyhawks
UT Martin split its road matches this weekend at Eastern Illinois and SIUE. The Skyhawks defeated Eastern Illinois in five sets to begin the weekend. The win snapped a three-match losing streak for the Skyhawks. UTM fell to SIUE in four sets to conclude the road trip on Saturday. For the second time this season, junior middle blocker Jemima Idemudia was been named the adidas OVC Newcomer of the Week. She averaged 4.00 kills per set on a .315 attack percentage, committing just seven errors over two matches. She also averaged 1.33 blocks per set to help guide UT Martin defensively.
Last Weekend Recap
Southeast Missouri split a pair of road matches over the weekend at SIUE and Eastern Illinois. The Redhawks fell to SIUE in four sets (21-25, 25-20, 28-26, 25-17) Friday evening.
Nzingha Clarke led the way in scoring for SEMO laying down 15 kills.
Krissa Gearring (12) and
Marie Less (11) also topped double-digit kills in the four-set match. The Redhawks earned their first road victory of the season on Saturday in a three-set sweep of Eastern Illinois (25-15, 27-25, 25-15). Gearring (16) and Clarke (13) each topped the double-digit kill mark but
Jade Mortimer was the highlight of the Redhawk defense picking up 25 digs in a three-set match.
Defensive Player of the Week
Senior libero
Jade Mortimer was named the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week this week. Mortimer registered 22 digs while also earning seven assists in Friday night's loss to SIUE. The following night, she posted a match-leading 25 digs (8.33 per set) in a short three-set contest against EIU, tacking on an extra five assists in the process. Her total of 47 digs averaged for 6.71 digs per set throughout the weekend. This is Mortimer's first Defensive Player of the Week honor this season and third of her career.
Numbers at a Glance
Gearring currently ranks ninth in the nation in total kills (462) and 30th in kills per set (4.28). Her total kills leads the OVC while her kills per set ranks second. She currently sits 13th in the NCAA DI rankings in points at 501.5.
Clarke's hitting percentage of .281 ranks seventh in the OVC.
Mortimer ranks 67th in the country in digs per set at 4.65 (4th in OVC). Her OVC-leading season total of 502 digs ranks 33rd in the nation.
Looking Ahead
The Redhawks will host Tennessee Tech on Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. The contest will be the final match of the 2016 season and Southeast will honor seniors
