Redhawks Fall to JSU in Double Overtime, 2-1

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Southeast Missouri women's soccer (7-4-3, 1-2-2) played a strong second half but ultimately fell on a game-winning goal in the 108th minute of double overtime to Jacksonville State (5-8-1, 2-3) Friday evening, 2-1.
 
After trailing in shots the first half, the Redhawks came out to outshoot the Gamecocks 15-9 in the final 62 minutes of the match.  
 
Natasha Minor and Esmeralda Gonzales led the Redhawks with six shots each in the match. Gonzales was sharp, putting four on goal, a new season high for the freshman.
 
Kindra Lierz (7-4-3) suffered the loss in goal. Lierz allowed both goals in the full 107 minutes and made eight saves, a new season high. Lierz eclipsed the 200-save mark of her career on Friday. The junior now has 203 in her career.
 
Caroline Robinson earned the win in goal for JSU. She allowed one goal and also made eight stops.  
 
Jacksonville State took an early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute. Cheyenne Carden picked up a deflection in the box and shot from the top left corner, finding the back of the net and putting JSU on top 1-0.
 
Minor netted her 10th goal of the season in the 28th minute, tying the match up at 1-1. Shay Darga dished out to Minor on the left side of the box then she buried it in the upper right corner.
 
With the goal, Minor is now tied for fourth on Southeast's single-season goals list. She remains in third all-time with 26 goals.
 
At halftime, Southeast trailed in shots, 8-5. JSU held a slight margin in shots on goal, 4-3.
 
Lauren Kaempfe led the Redhawks with a pair of shots in opening half.
 
Southeast had 12 shots in the second half to take a 17-12 advantage in the shots column at the end of the first 90 minutes. The Redhawks held JSU to only four shots in the second half.
 
For the third match in a row, the Redhawks played into double overtime.
 
In the 108th minute, Nadia Plawiuk netted the golden goal, securing the victory for Jacksonville State.
 
Southeast Missouri is back in action on Sunday at Belmont. The Redhawks and Bruins are slated for a 2 p.m. start time from E.S. Rose Park in Nashville, Tennessee. The match can be viewed live and for free on the OVC Digital Network.
