Volleyball Falls To Morehead State, 3-1

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Southeast Missouri volleyball (4-20, 3-6 OVC) fell in four sets (25-22, 25-20,19-25, 25-13) to Morehead State (9-14, 5-5 OVC) on Saturday afternoon at Wetherby Gym.

The contest opened with a back-and-forth first game which saw 10 ties as well as six lead changes. Stringing together a late four-point run, the Eagles were able to sneak past the Redhawks and claim the opening frame, 25-22. In similar fashion, MSU was victorious again in the second set by taking advantage of a late seven-point rally to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

SEMO returned from intermission with new life, jumping out to an early 6-1 lead in the third game. The Redhawks were able to hold the advantage throughout the frame, avoiding the sweep with a decisive 25-19 win.

Morehead State regrouped in the following game, however, earning a 25-13 set win and 3-1 match victory.

Krissa Gearring led Southeast with 11 kills, followed closely by Nzingha Clarke with 10.

Krista Berns had a strong day at the net, registering six total blocks (four solo) while Jade Mortimer tallied 17 digs to lead the Redhawk defense during the contest.

Keegan Fornoff made her season debut, posting 13 of Southeast's 36 assists. Katarina Rotta also registered 18 assists through two sets of action.

The Redhawks return home next weekend to host Murray State and Austin Peay on Oct.28-29. Friday's match against the Racers is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and will be the annual "Survivor Night" in honor of breast cancer awareness month. Saturday's first serve against APSU is set for 5 p.m.
