COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri women's soccer (7-5-4, 1-3-3) lost to Tennessee Tech (7-5-3, 3-1-2) on Friday afternoon by a score of 1-0.
Despite outshooting the Golden Eagles in the first half, 6-5, the Redhawks were held to just a single shot in the second half as Tennessee Tech put up nine.
Natasha Minor led the Redhawk offense with four of SEMO's seven shots in the match. Southeast was held to just two shots on goal from
Maddi Karstens and
Maggie Pike.
Kindra Lierz (7-5-4) suffered the loss in goal. Lierz made five stops in the match and allowed the lone goal of the game to Tennessee Tech.
Kari Naerdemann (7-5-3) picked up the shutout win for TTU, making two stops.
The game-winner came in the 12
th minute of the match by Nora Vicsek. Vicsek cocked and fired from inside the box and off a diving Lierz's hand for the goal. Vicsek's goal was assisted by Rachel Blow and Abi Gearing. It was her second of the season.
Southeast outshot the Golden Eagles in the first half, 6-5. Minor was responsible for four of the six shots while Pike owned the other two. The Redhawks put only one shot on goal while TTU had three.
Karstens was the lone Redhawk to record a shot in the second half, putting it on goal in the 59
th minute.
The foul count remained slim in the match with Southeast being called for four and TTU for six. Each team had three corner kick opportunities.
Southeast Missouri will begin the final stretch of the regular season on Sunday. Eastern Kentucky will come to Cape Girardeau for a 2 p.m. matchup. Sunday's match will be the first of three straight home matches to close the regular season.
