Redhawks Fall to Austin Peay, 86-80

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Josh Robinson scored 30 points to lead Austin Peay (10-14, 3-6) to an 86-80 win over Southeast Missouri (5-17, 2-7) Saturday afternoon at the Show Me Center.

Robinson made seven 3-pointers as one of four APSU starters in double figures, helping the Governors end Southeast's season-long three-game winning streak.

"If we score 80 points, that's more than enough for us to win," said Southeast head coach Rick Ray. "We lost our identity today. We gave up way too many uncontested shots and our defensive rotations were soft."

Southeast got into foul trouble early with starters Joel Angus III, Antonius Cleveland and Isiah Jones each picking up two fouls in the first 10 minutes of the game.

The Redhawks later led, 28-22, when Jamaal Calvin knocked down a 3-pointer with 5:40 left in the first half.

APSU, however, answered with a 12-0 run as Southeast missed six field goals and did not score for a period of 5:11. Robinson's 3-pointer capped the surge before the Governors led, 34-30, at the half.

Robinson made another 3-pointer to end a 12-2 run, widening the Governors lead to 52-39 with just under 15 minutes left in the second half.

Southeast then battled back to pull to within two on Calvin's 3-pointer and then tied the game on its next possession when Jones drained a three to make it 65-65 at the 7:39 mark.

Jones, after making a 3-pointer to cut APSU's lead to one, then gave Southeast a 71-70 lead on another trey with 5:35 remaining.

The Redhawks would later lead by two twice in the last four minutes, but that wasn't enough.

A pair of free throws by Jared Savage tied the game at 74-74 and APSU outscored the Redhawks, 12-6, in the final three-and-a-half minutes to come away with the victory.

Robinson made a big 3-pointer 16 seconds after Southeast pulled to within three with two minutes to go and added three more points at the free throw line to key the late surge.

Southeast shot 49.2 percent (30-of-61) from the field with Jones paving the way with 18 points. He made four of his seven field goals from beyond the arc.

Trey Kellum and Cleveland followed with 15 points each. Kellum narrowly missed a double-double, pulling down a game-high nine rebounds, as well.

Robinson shot 9-of-16 from the field and knocked down 7-of-12 three-pointers. He also had five rebounds and two assists in 36 minutes.

Khalil Davis (18), Chris Horton (15) and Kenny Jones (12) were APSU's other starters with double-digits in the scoring column.

The Governors shot 52.7 percent (29-of-55) from the field.

Southeast hosts rival Murray State in a nationally-televised ESPNU matchup on Feb. 4.
