Redhawks Resume Indoor Season Friday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - A month after its initial competition, the Southeast Missouri track & field teams resume their indoor season when they compete at the 30th Annual Missouri Invitational Friday.
The meet, hosted by the University of Missouri, will be held at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse in Columbia. Field events begin at 2 p.m., CT, followed by the running events at 3 p.m.
Southeast last competed at the Eastern Illinois Early Bird Invitational on Dec. 11, 2015.
Jason Walker placed first in the men's weight throw, setting a personal record. Walker ranks second in the Ohio Valley Conference with his mark of 54'4". He also took eighth in the shot put with a throw of 45'8.5".
Christian Locke claimed first in the men's pole vault and his 5.05m mark currently leads the OVC. The Redhawks boast the top three conference marks in men's pole vault with Austin Barousse (4.29m) and Tyler Jourdan (4.10m) in second and third, respectively.
Kayla Gutierrez secured two top-five finishes during her opening meet of the indoor season. Her toss of 19.98m (65'6.75") captured first-place in the women's weight throw after she placed fourth in shot put at 14m (44'9"). Gutierrez's effort in the weight throw presently tops the OVC.
Ayonna Cartwright is also off to a good start after taking first in the women's 60m dash with a time of 7.63.
