CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The 2015 Southeast Missouri Soccer season begins this weekend. The Redhawks kick off the season Friday evening at Missouri S&T. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. from Rolla, Missouri. The Redhawks will turn around and play the 2015 home opener Sunday at noon from Missouri National Guard Field at Houck Stadium. The Redhawks will play host to Northern Iowa Sunday afternoon.
Upcoming PromotionsAnnual Youth Soccer Day - Sunday, August 23The Redhawks will host Youth Soccer Day during the home opener against Northern Iowa. All kids 14 and under wearing their youth soccer jersey will receive free admission to the match.
Welcome, Mr. President - Sunday August 23Dr. Carlos Vargas, 18th President of Southeast Missouri State University, will be in attendance at the home opener on Sunday. Dr. Vargas will open the home schedule with a ceremonial first kick prior to the start of the match.
OVC Predicted Order of FinishSoutheast Missouri soccer was picked to finish second in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2015. The Redhawks were picked second to SIUE. The Redhawks and Cougars shared the OVC title in 2014 after both finishing 8-2 in Conference play; however, Southeast defeated SIUE, 2-1, in their head-to-head match in the regular season finale to force the shared title and earn the right to host the OVC Tournament.
Redhawks Fall to Memphis in ExhibitionThe Southeast Missouri women's soccer team fell to Memphis Wednesday evening in their only exhibition of the preseason, 2-0. The Redhawks and Tigers played to a scoreless draw in the first half. Memphis broke the scoreless tie in the 63rd minute in the second half.
Natasha Minor led the Redhawks with three shots while
Jennifer Antonacci had two. Each had one shot on goal.
Scholars on the FieldThe Ohio Valley Conference announced the OVC Medal of Honor recipients and members of the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Southeast Missouri soccer posted 23 student-athletes to the list, the most of any Southeast team. The Redhawks also had seven student-athletes awarded the OVC Medal of Honor for acheiving a perfect 4.0 GPA during the 2014-15 academic year.
