CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (1-19, 1-7) suffered a 4-1 loss to UT Martin (7-9, 4-5) Wednesday at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
Southeast and UTM completed their match that was initially postponed due to inclement weather.
The Redhawks, who did not score in four-straight matches, ended that drought when
Melissa Martin defeated Jessica Silva in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7). Martin picked up her team-high fifth singles win this season.
Mariya Kostyuk,
Viviana Ortiz,
Maria Montenegro and
Annisa Warasanti competed ahead of Martin in the singles lineup. Kostyuk fell to Hitomi Naito, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1, Sarah Candeloro upended Ortiz in a three-set thriller, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2, Burcu Tari beat Montenegro, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 and Elina Geut defeated Warasanti, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4.
Katy Brady played for the first time this spring in No. 6 singles, but her matchup with Florence Nicole was unfinished.
Southeast and UTM did not play doubles.
The Redhawks continue their homestand against Belmont Friday. Start time is 3 p.m., CT.
