EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – A pair of early errors by both teams made the game interesting but the Redhawk bats would go cold in Southeast Missouri's 8-4 loss to SIUE Friday.

After putting up four runs in the second inning, the Redhawks were shutout the remainder of the game.

Southeast falls to 15-10 overall and 7-3 in Ohio Valley Conference play. SIUE is now 9-11 and 9-1 in OVC action. With the loss, Southeast's six-game winning streak was snapped.

The Cougars touched home first in the opening frame. Nick Lombardo led off the inning with a double to left center. He advanced to third on a foul out and scored on a double to right center by Parker Guinn to make it 1-0 in the first.

Ryan Rippee started the second inning for the Redhawks with a single up the middle followed by
Brendon Neel with a base hit with one out. Rippee scored on a ground rule double by
Branden Boggetto to tie the game. After a walk to
Clayton Evans loaded the bases,
Trevor Ezell hit a chopper to the third baseman who threw the ball into the ground and got away from the first baseman and allowed two runners to score and give Southeast a 3-1 lead.
Jason Blum plated Evans to extend the lead to 4-1.

The bottom of the inning was nearly identical. With runners on second and third and two out, third baseman Blum committed a throwing error to allow both runners to score and make it a 4-3 game. A double that followed the error tied the game at 4-4.

SIUE recaptured the lead in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs to go back up, 6-4.

The Cougars extended the lead in the sixth when Keaton Wright drove in Lombardo to make it 7-4 and an extra run in the eighth made it 8-4 Cougars.

Southeast was outhit by SIUE, 14-8. Rippee had the only multi-hit game for the Redhawks, going 2-for-4 with a run.

Alec Saikal and Lombardo each tallied three hits in the game; Lombardo scored three runs.
Â
Travis Hayes (4-3) recorded the loss. Hayes worked five and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs; only four were earned. He struck out three and walked two.

Ryan Daniels (2-3) picked up the win for the Cougars. He pitched five innings, giving up four runs to Southeast; only one of which was earned. He fanned four batters and walked one. Ryan Agnitsch pitched four innings in relief en route to the save, his first of the season.

The Redhawks and Cougars will faceoff again Saturday. The start time of the game has been moved back an hour to 2 p.m.
