HAMMOND, La. - Carly Gonzales scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give UT Martin (7-5) a 2-1 victory over Southeast Missouri (3-5) Saturday afternoon at the Lion Classic Sramble.
Tied, 1-1, after seven innings, Gonzales was placed on second base by way of the international tiebreaker rule.
A sacrifice-bunt by Jodie Duncan moved Gonzales to third before three-straight walks followed. It marked the second-straight time Southeast lost in walkoff fashion.
Gonzales scored UTM's other run on a two-out double by Kenzi Tate in the bottom of the third.
Southeast, after going scoreless for six innings, tied things up when Leah Duffe slugged a clutch leadoff home run to right field in the seventh.
The Skyhawks then went down in order in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game to extra innings.
The Redhawks came up empty and stranded two runners in scoring position during their at-bat in the eighth.
Southeast registered hits with six different players getting one apiece. Alexis Anderson, Savannah Carpenter, Lindsey Patterson, India Davis, Duffe and Nicole Deering had those hits.
Freshman Madeline Krumrey (1-2) was credited with the loss after striking out two, walking three, giving up a hit and allowing the decisive run in 3.1 innings.
Keaira Schilling and Aubrey Denno combined to allow one run on three hits through the first four innings.
"Overall, I was happy with we pitched today," said Southeast head coach Mark Redburn. "We played all the way through until the end and had a great effort."
Tate (1-1) went the distance for UTM, allowing six hits and a run in eight innings. She struck out two and walked four, as well.
Southeast faces Southeastern Conference foe Arkansas at 10 a.m., CT, Sunday.
