Final StatisticsCHARLESTON, Ill. –  Southeast Missouri (12-16, 6-9) made one field goal in the final 7:30 and Eastern Illinois (16-12, 9-6) overcame a nine-point deficit to come away with a 73-65 victory Sunday night at Lantz Arena.
Southeast led the first 34:54 of the game and built its largest lead of the night at 49-40 on
Antonius Cleveland's jumper with 15:16 remaining.
Â
However, a cold shooting spell in the last 7:31 of the game doomed the Redhawks.
Â
Southeast shot just 1-of-11 in that span and EIU capitalized with a 16-3 run to pull off its come-from-behind win.
Â
The Redhawks only points during the decisive stretch came by way of a
Isiah Jones three-pointer. At the time, Jones' fourth three-pointer of the game cut the Panthers lead to one (66-65) at the 3:16 mark and that was as close as Southeast would get.
EIU, which outscored Southeast, 38-24, in the second half, took its first lead on a layup by Trae Anderson with a little over five minutes (5:06) left. The Panthers led, 64-62, on Anderson's basket before Southeast missed six of its last seven field goal attempts.
Â
Chris Olivier made a jumper and Anderson followed that up with two free throws to give EIU a 70-65 lead with 1:06 left immediately after Jones' three.
Â
Three more free throws, including one by Dylan Chatman and two by Reggie Smith in the final 44 seconds sealed the victory.
Â
Southeast started strong again, making five three-pointers in the opening 5:54 of the game to grab a seven-point lead.
Â
Jones heated up to bury each of his first three 3-pointers.
Jamaal Calvin and
Marcus Wallace added one apiece as Wallace's shot gave the Redhawks a 15-8 advantage at the 14:06 mark.
Â
Another three by Wallace put Southeast up by seven for the second time before the Redhawks stretched their lead to eight twice in the last six minutes of the first half.
Â
Jarekious Bradley's jumper made it a 32-24 game with 5:54 on the clock. Thirty-seven seconds later, Cleveland knocked down a jumper to widen the lead to 34-26 (5:17).
Â
EIU managed to get within one on Anderson's layup (34-33), Â but Southeast countered with a 7-2 run in the final 2:43 to extend its lead to 41-35 at the intermission.
Â
Bradley scored all seven points during that surge which resulted in the Redhawks taking a halftime lead for their fourth-straight game.
Â
Olivier, who did not play in the first meeting between these teams on Feb. 7, scored a game-high 20 points in 27 minutes off the bench. He shot 7-of-11 from the field and 6-of-10 at the free throw line.
Â
Anderson and Smith contributed double figures off the bench with 17 and 10 points, respectively. Smith didn't play against the Redhawks earlier this month either.
Â
Cornell Johnston pitched in 12 points for the Panthers, as well.
Â
EIU shot 50 percent (25-of-50) from the field on the night. Additionally, the Panthers shot 16-of-23 free throws and made 12-of-16 in the second half. EIU attempted 18 more free throws than Southeast (5).
Â
Bradley led all Southeast scorers with 18 points, while Wallace and Cleveland followed with 14 apiece. Jones rounded out the Redhawks double-digit scorers with 12 points, all of which came from three-point range. Bradley added 10 rebounds en route to his second-straight double-double.
Â
Southeast shot just 34.5 percent (10-of-29) from the field in the second half and fell under 40 percent (.388) for the game.
