Final Statistics

MONROE, La. - Freshman Taylor McDannold went 4-for-5 with three doubles, two runs scored and an RBI to help Southeast Missouri (2-3) close out the Mardi Gras Classic with a 10-8 win over Grambling State (0-7) Sunday.

McDannold doubled in the first, sixth and seventh innings as Southeast withstood a late rally to beat the Tigers.

The Redhawks held an 8-2 lead after five-and-a-half innings before GSU scored six runs to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Drew Hernandez-Thompson reached on an infield single and went to second on a fielding error. Nicole Ene followed with a triple and Thompson scored. After Southeast made a pitching change, Kendalyn Arceneaux greeted Keaira Schilling with a single to knock in Ene. On the next play, Raquel Westerman drove in two runs on a double to center. Morgan Butler later drew a bases loaded walk to plate another run before Brianna Maiden touched home on a wild pitch to tie things up.

Southeast took advantage of two errors to plate a pair of unearned runs in the top of the seventh.

India Davis quickly moved into scoring position on a two-base throwing error and came around to score the go-ahead run when Claire Wernig grounded out to second. McDannold then belted her third double with one out to score pinch-runner Nicole Deering, putting the Redhawks ahead, 10-8.

GSU had the tying run at the plate during its final at-bat in the seventh, but Westerman hit into a fielder's choice and Schilling struck out Briana Carmouche to end the game.

Southeast posted 16 hits, with McDannold, Kayla Fortner (2-for-5), Savannah Carpenter (2-for-2), Lindsey Patterson (2-for-3), Leah Duffe (2-for-3) and Deering (2-for-3) contributing two or more. McDannold, Fortner and Carpenter combined to hit .667 (8-of-12) with four runs scored and four RBI at the top of the Redhawks lineup.

Duffe and Darby Pruett each homered for the first time this season, as well.

Schilling (2-2) earned her second win, striking out three in two relief innings.

Nicolette Wunderly (0-2) was credited with the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits. Wunderly also walked two and struck out one in four innings of relief.

Southeast returns to action at the Memphis Blues City Classic Feb. 21-22.
