Patterson Earns First Career Win with 78-66 Victory Over Harris-Stowe

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — First-year head coach Rekha Patterson earned her first career win Monday evening with a 78-66 victory over Harris-Stowe State University (1-3).

With the win, the Redhawks are now 1-1 on the season.

Southeast had four players with double-digit points, led by Olivia Hackmann with 26, a new career high for the senior. The Redhawks also had two players with double-digit rebounds with one more just shy with nine.

The Redhawks found themselves with a 22-15 lead over Harris-Stowe at the end of the first quarter. The Redhawks highlighted the frame with four 3-pointers, two of which coming from Hannah Noe. Hackmann tallied eight points and four rebounds in the quarter to lead the Redhawks in both categories.

The Redhawks found their first double-digit lead when Hackmann drained a 3-pointer with 5:32 left in the second quarter. Noe drained her third 3-pointer with eight seconds left in the first half to put the Redhawks on top by 23 points going into halftime, 46-23.

Hackmann finished the first half with 13 points while three separate Redhawks had five rebounds.

Southeast shot 43.6% (17-for-39) from the field and an impressive 61.5% (8-for-13) from 3-point range.

Hackmann drained her third 3-pointer early in the third quarter, 49-25, but then the Redhawk offense went cold as they went on a 4:43 scoring drought while the Hornets went on a 12-point run, narrowing the Southeast lead to 12, 49-37. A pair of free throws by Imani Johnson ended the scoring drought but Southeast wouldn't drain a field goal until 1:15 later on a jumper by Hackmann.

The Redhawks ended the third quarter on top by 19, 60-41. The Hornets outscored Southeast, 18-14, in the frame.

1:50 into the final quarter, Hackmann was fouled on a good jumper in the paint to officially record 20 points in the game, recording a new career high. She completed the three-point play to widen the lead to 18.

With 5:29 left in the game and the Redhawks up 67-52, the Hornets went on a seven-point run to narrow the Redhawk lead to just eight, 67-59.

Southeast was able to fend off the Hornets long enough to pick up the 78-66 victory in the home opener.

The Redhawks were outscored 43-32 in the second half.

Erin Bollmann came off the bench Monday and recorded the Redhawks' first double-double of the season, the sixth of her career at Southeast. Bollmann had 11 points with 12 rebounds, falling one rebound shy of tying a career-high. She tied a career-high five steals in the game.

Bollmann's performance off the bench sparked a 27-point night for the Redhawk bench. The bench scored just five points against Saint Louis on Saturday.

Hackmann's career-high 26 points came from 10 field goals, four of which coming from beyond the arc, both were also career-highs.

Bri Mitchell finished with 10 points. Mitchell was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Mitchell also had seven assists. Freshman Adrianna Murphy contributed six assists in the game.

Noe's 12 points came from her perfect 4-for-4 performance from 3-point range, both career highs for the sophomore.

Deja Jones picked up her second double-digit rebound game in a row, tallying 10 against Harris-Stowe. Connor King picked up nine boards in the game to go along with eight points.

As a team, Southeast finished shooting 34.2% (26-of-76) from the field and 52.4% (11-of-21) from beyond the arc. From the charity stripe, Southeast was 15-for-19.

The Hornets were led by Cierra Stencil with 21 points in the game. Shaakera Jones tallied 16 points for the Hornets.

The Redhawks have another quick turnaround as they hit the road for a game at Alabama A&M on Wednesday. Tipoff against the Lady Bulldogs is slated for 7 p.m. from Huntsville, Alabama.
