CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri's cross country teams are heading to Lawrence, Kansas to run in the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday.
The University of Kansas will play host to the event, which begins with the women's 6k at noon, CT, followed by the men's 10k at 1 pm. The location of the race is at Rim Rock Farm. Admission is free to all spectators, but there will be a $10 parking fee per vehicle.
This event will play host to 38 women's teams and 33 men's teams, and it will consist of approximately 546 total competitors (286 women, 260 men).
Southeast Missouri will have eight women competing in this year's Regional. They include Second Team All-Ohio Valley Conference runner Megan Parks, Female Freshman of the Year Kaitlyn Shea, Angie Sumner, Sydney O'Brien, Lindsey Seabaugh, Andrea George, Rachel Hutchcraft and Natalie Kopplin.
"The girls have been running strong all year and look as if they will not have a bad race all season," said Southeast head coach Ryan Lane. "I am looking forward to seeing continued improvement, as almost all of them return next year."
Seniors Shane Brown and Craig Munie, along with juniors Marc Maton and Jaime Zarate, will get the chance to compete for the men's team in Lawrence.
"The men's team has had some bad luck this year with injuries, but we are taking these four men with us because they are prepared to run well, and have put in a tremendous amount of work this season," added Lane.
Under Lane, both teams' highest finishers at the Regional were in 2013. Rebekah Lawson finished 43rd out of 210, while Munie placed 60th out of 200 total competitors.
