LEXINGTON, Ky. —
Christina Rohde's overtime goal lifted Southeast Missouri past Eastern Kentucky Thursday, 1-0.
The win snaps Southeast's two-match losing skid. Southeast is now 7-5-2 on the season and 2-2-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play. EKU falls to 1-12, 1-4 OVC.
This is Southeast's first overtime win on the season.
The Redhawks and Colonels found themselves scoreless after the first 45 minutes of play.
The Redhawks outshot the Colonels, 5-4, but didn't put any on goal. EKU had two shots on goal in the first half.
Southeast had six fouls called and one corner in the first half of the match. EKU had four corners and three fouls.
The scoreless draw held for the next 45 minutes to force overtime.
2:22 into overtime,
Paige Blankenheim fed the ball into the box off a corner kick. Rohde went up and headed the ball into the back of the net for the game-winner. It was Rohde's second goal of the season.
EKU put up six shots in the final 47 minutes of the match to finish outshooting the Redhawks, 10-9, putting six shots on goal to Southeast's two.
Kaitlin Kuznacic,
Jennifer Antonacci, and
Angie Mann all had two shots each in the match.
The Redhawks finished with two corner kicks while the Colonels had nine. Southeast was called for nine fouls; EKU had eight.
Kindra Lierz (6-5-2) played the full 92:22 in goal in the shutout. She recorded six saves. The solo shutout is the 12th of Lierz's career and ties her for fourth in career solo shutouts with Amanda Wrzos (2002-04).
Anna Hall (1-5) also played the full 92:22 in goal and made one save.
The Redhawks will return to action at home next Friday when they host Belmont at 6:30 p.m.
