MURRAY, Ky. — The Southeast Missouri soccer team fell to Murray State Sunday, 4-1.
Southeast falls to 6-5-2 and 1-2-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play. Murray climbs to 7-4 and remains perfect in league play at 3-0.
Southeast found themselves down 4-0 after the first half.
Taylor Richerson scored her first goal of the game in the 16th minute. Richerson scored on a pass in from Rebecca Bjorkvall.
Just two minutes later, in the 17th minute, Taylor Stevens scored on a header off a corner kick by Harriet Withers to pull ahead 2-0.
The Racers made it 3-0 on Richerson's second goal of the game, assisted this time by Aaron Lankster, in the 25th minute.
Caroline Ashton widened the lead to 4-0 on a goal off a rebound in the 38th minute.
The 4-0 Racer lead would stand through much of the second half until
Jenna Collingridge netted her first goal of the season in the 77th minute. Collingridge shot from the top of the box past a diving keeper into the bottom left corner of the net, narrowing the lead to 4-1.
The 4-1 score would stand the remaining 13 minutes to the final buzzer.
Murray outshot Southeast, 17-6, with 12 of their shots put on goal. Southeast had four shots on goal and four corner kicks.
Kindra Lierz (5-5-2) played the full 90 minutes in goal. Lierz made a season-high eight saves in the match.
Alex Steigerwald made her first start in goal for the Racers Sunday, allowing one goal and making three saves in 90 minutes.
Southeast Missouri will play at Eastern Kentucky Thursday at 3 p.m., CT to close the road swing.
