Soccer Plays at No. 3 Jacksonville State in OVC Tournament Quarterfinal

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri soccer team will travel to Jacksonville State for game one of the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Sunday. The Redhawks, who carry the No. 6 seed, will play the No. 3 Gamecocks in the quarterfinal round.

Sunday's match will be streamed for free to the OVC Digital Network.

The Redhawks defeated Jacksonville State, 1-0, at home on Oct. 18. Lauren Kaempfe scored her first career goal in the fifth minute to lift the Redhawks past the Gamecocks. Defense was key for both squads as the Redhawks had nine shots while JSU had just seven.

The Redhawks are 10-4-2 all-time against Jacksonville State. Southeast and JSU met twice in 2014. The Redhawks won the regular-season matchup, 3-0, on the road. The Gamecocks ended the Redhawks' season with a 1-0 loss in the semifinal round of the OVC Tournament. The win advanced Jacksonville State to the Tournament Championship match.

New OVC Tournament Format
Starting this season, the first round of the OVC Tournament Championship (featuring the No. 3 through No. 6 seeds) will be played on Sunday at campus sites (higher seeds in each matchup). The winners will then advance to the campus of the No. 1 seed and play the semifinals and championship at that location. Previously, all six teams played on the campus of the No. 1 seed.

Redhawks Against the Field
The Redhawks have only one loss against teams in the OVC Tournament field, which came against the champions Murray State. Their only win is against Jacksonville State while they tied Tennessee Tech, UT Martin, and Morehead State. If the Redhawks advance to the semis, they will face No. 2 Tennessee Tech Friday, Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. in Murray, Kentucky.

Let's Review
The Redhawks posted their third straight tie with a scoreless double overtime affair at UT Martin on Thursday. The Skyhawks had solid control of the ball all throughout the match, putting 42 shots on the board, 17 of which were on goal. Kindra Lierz tallied a career high 16 saves in the match. The Skyhawks had multiple opportunities to score including 14 corner kicks but couldn't get one past Lierz.

Ties for Days
With Thursday's stalemate against UT Martin, Southeast set a new program record of six ties in a season. The old record of five was set in 2003. The Redhawks' five conference ties is also a new program record. The Redhawks' three-match tie streak is also a new program record. Since the OVC picked up soccer in 1998, Southeast's six ties in a season and five in conference play are both league records.

Scouting the Opponent
Jacksonville State (8-9-1, 5-4-1 OVC)
Since the Gamecocks came to Cape Girardeau on Oct. 18, they have lost to Eastern Kentucky (1-2) and defeated Belmont (1-0). Jacksonville State fell to Eastern Kentucky last week and defeated Belmont on Thursday. Senior Kelsey Bright scored her fifth goal of the season and her 27th of her career. She is just shy of breaking the program's all-time career shots record.
