CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri returns home to host Eastern Illinois on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and SIUE on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Saturday's match against SIUE will be the team's annual Survivor Night. The Redhawks will honor breast cancer survivors during intermission of that match. Friday's match against EIU will be streamed on the OVC Digital Network.
When asked about the upcoming weekend, Head Coach
Julie Yankus commented, "We are excited to finish the month of October at home so we can finish our Dig for Life campaign in front of a home crowd. I am very excited for our annual Survivor's Game where we honor local breast cancer survivors. It'll be a great way to cap off this year's Dig for Life campaign."
The Redhawks are now 8-15 overall after splitting matches last weekend. A victory over Tennessee State and lose to Belmont brings Southeast's Ohio Valley Conference record to 4-6.
Conference LeadersThe Redhawks continue to control the net, leading OVC play with 2.39 blocks per set.
Nzingha Clarke ranks second in blocks per set (1.26), tallying 48 during conference play.
Clarke's offense has also been on display with a .390 hitting clip.
Madalyn Werths joins Clark in the top five in individual conference attack percentage with a .354 hitting clip.
Scouting the PanthersEIU enters Houck Field House on a five-match win streak. After defeating Austin Peay and conference leader Murray State, the Panthers are 8-2 and in second place in OVC play. EIU's attack percentage tops conference play as the Panthers are led by Allie Hueston's OVC leading hitting clip of .421. EIU ranks second in blocks per set (2.08), trailing only to the Redhawks. The Redhawks lost a heartbreaker in five sets at EIU on Oct. 17.
Scouting the CougarsSIUE is currently tied with Southeast in conference play at 4-6 after splitting a weekend against Murray State and Austin Peay. The Cougars currently occupy the last spot available for the OVC tournament and face ninth-ranked UT Martin the night before facing Southeast. Kristen Torre leads SIUE with 265 kills, averaging 3.27 per set. Her .398 attack percentage is ranked second in conference play. SIUE topped Southeast in four sets in Edwardsville, Illinois on Oct. 16.
Looking AheadSoutheast will take its final season road trip next weekend visiting Austin Peay and Murray State. The following Tuesday, Nov. 10, Southeast will close the road trip against UT Martin. The Redhawks will return home to finish the regular season with senior night on Nov. 14 against Jacksonville State.
