Redhawks Play Pivotal Match at UT Martin Thursday

CAPE GIARDEAU, Mo. - The regular season will come to a close Thursday when Southeast Missouri soccer travels to Martin, Tennessee for a 7 p.m. matchup with the UT Martin Skyhawks.

Thursday's match will be streamed for free to the OVC Digital Network.

The Skyhawks have picked up nine points in their last three games with wins over Belmont, Tennessee Tech, and Morehead State; all teams that Southeast has tied this season. Those nine points have propelled the Skyhawks into fourth place in the Ohio Valley Conference with 15 points.

The Redhawks are 10-6-4 all time against UT Martin; however, when the Redhawks play in Martin, they are 4-4-1. The Redhawks look to snap a three-game losing streak against the Skyhawks.

Let's Review
Southeast picked up two ties last week at Morehead State and against Tennessee Tech. The Redhawks played to a 2-2 draw on the road at Morehead State on Thursday. Angie Mann scored on a penalty kick in the first half. Morehead exploded for two goals in the second half to take a 2-1 lead on Southeast. Lauren Kaempfe tied the match in the 78th minute with her second goal in as many games. The 2-2 score would stand through two overtimes. The Redhawks and Tennessee Tech played to a scoreless stalemate on Sunday. The Redhawks celebrated Senior Day prior to the match.

Keeping Tournament Hopes Alive
The Redhawks currently sit tied for fifth place with 13 points in the league standings. They are tied with Jacksonville State (4-4-1). The top six teams advance to the OVC Tournament. With a win on Thursday, the Redhawks would have 16 points and potentially put them in line to hold the No. 3 seed in the tournament. With the second through seventh-place teams all separated by four points, the final seedings for the Tournament will come down to four key matches being played across the league on Thursday.

Austin Peay at Murray State - 3 p.m.
Jacksonville State at Belmont - 6 p.m.
Morehead State at Tennessee Tech - 6 p.m.
Southeast Missouri at UT Martin - 7 p.m.

Ties for Days
With Sunday's stalemate against Tennessee Tech, Southeast ties a program record of five ties in a season, set during the 2003 campaign. The Redhawks' four conference ties is a new program record.

Scouting the Opponent
UT Martin (7-10, 5-4 OVC)
UT Martin defeated Tennessee Tech and Morehead State last week. Freshman Lisa Schmieder scored a pair of goals and tallied an assist last week. She scored the game winner versus Morehead State. Freshman Maggie Burkett was part of a defense that recorded its second shutout of the season. She also recorded a goal and an assist over the 180 minutes of action. Freshman goalkeeper MaKenzie Crawford earned her second shutout of the season. She made six saves and gave up just one goal.

Looking Ahead
The 2015 OVC Tournament will begin on Sunday. The Championship will be played for the 17th time in 2015 with an updated schedule of venues. Starting this season, the first round of the championship (featuring the No. 3 through No. 6 seeds) will be played on Sunday at campus sites of the No. 3 and 4 seeds. The winners will then advance to the campus of the No. 1 seed and play the semifinals and championship at that location. This season Murray State claimed the regular season crown and right to host the Championship at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky.
