Redhawks Visit Nashville This Weekend, Battle TSU And Belmont

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Redhawks volleyball team hits the road to Nashville this weekend for matches against Tennessee State and Belmont. The Redhawks and Tigers face off at 6 p.m. Friday followed by a match with the Bruins at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Both matches will now be broadcasted on the OVC Digital Network. Saturday's match will bring a close to the Redhawks' current four-game road swing.

The Redhawks are sporting a 7-14 record after dropping two games last weekend at SIUE and Eastern Illinois. Now sitting at .375 with a 3-5 record in the Ohio Valley Conference, Southeast is tied with three other teams for seventh in the league.

Defensive Leaders
Southeast continues to lead the league with 73 total blocks and 2.43 blocks per set in conference-only matches. Nzingha Clarke's 1.30 blocks per set ranks first in OVC play.

The Redhawks rank 35th nationally with 16.36 digs per set. Jade Mortimer ranks third against conference opponents, averaging 4.23 digs per set. Her season total of 355 digs is second in the OVC and 65th nationally.

Scouting the Tigers
Last weekend, Tennessee State defeated Austin Peay in five sets and were then swept by Murray State. TSU is fourth in the OVC at 5-3 and 10-10 overall. Currently, the Tigers are second in OVC play in blocks per set, trailing the Redhawks with a 2.09 average. Southeast's all-time record is 39-11 against TSU. The Redhawks have won the last three meetings with the Tigers, dating back to 2012.

Scouting the Bruins
The Bruins fell to Murray State last Friday, 3-0, before besting Austin Peay the following day, 3-0. Belmont's 6-2 conference record ties for second in the OVC. On Tuesday, the Bruins traveled to Nashville rival Lipscomb in a non-conference matchup. The Bruins fell in five sets, dropping their record to 9-11 overall. The Bruins lead conference play with 66 total aces, averaging 2.20 per set. They rank second in OVC play in opponent hitting percentage, only allowing a .158 clip. Since joining the OVC in 2012, Belmont holds a 3-1 advantage over Southeast.

Looking Ahead
Southeast will return home next weekend to host Eastern Illinois (Oct. 30) and SIUE (Oct. 31). Saturday's match against SIUE will be the annual Survivor Night. The Redhawks will honor breast cancer survivors during intermission.
