Redhawks Travel to SIUE, EIU

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri hits the road this weekend to take on SIUE on Friday at 7 p.m. and Eastern Illinois on Saturday at 2 p.m. These are the first two of a four-game road swing for the Redhawks. 

Both matches this weekend will be streamed for free to the OVC Digital network.

The Redhawks used a pair of wins last weekend over Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State to jump up a couple places in the conference rankings to tied for fifth. The Redhawks improved their overall record to 7-12 on the season and moved to .500 at 3-3 in league play. 

Top of the Conference
Southeast currently leads in both total blocks (56) and blocks per set (2.67) in conference-only games. Against Morehead State, the Redhawks set their season high for team blocks with 15. Nzingha Clarke currently ranks first with 1.38 blocks per set, tallying 29 during conference play. Overall, she is averaging .90 per set on the season.

The Redhawks also lead in digs per set (17.43) in conference-only matches. Their overall digs per set of 16.46 is currently ranked 34th in the nation. Jade Mortimer is third in the OVC in overall digs per set, averaging 4.46. 

Scouting the Cougars
SIUE is 1-5 on the season after falling to Austin Peay and Murray State last weekend. At 3-13 overall, the Cougars are led by Kristen Torre who has tallied 191 kills (2.98 per set) and sports a .364 hitting clip. Southeast's all-time record against SIUE is 6-5. Last season, the Redhawks swept the Cougars at home but fell on the road in five sets. 

Scouting the Panthers
Eastern Illinois split a pair of matches last weekend to bring their conference record to 4-2. After falling to Murray State then defeating Austin Peay, the Panthers are now 9-11 on the season. Allie Hueston and Chelsea Lee lead EIU in kills with 178 and 177, respectively. The Panthers average 11.97 assists per set as Marah Bradbury's 7.55 (574 total assists) leads the team. Southeast is 29-19-1 all-time against the EIU. The Redhawks swept the home-and-home series last season, winning both matched in five sets. 

Looking Ahead
Southeast will continue its road trip next weekend at Tennessee State (Oct. 23) and Belmont (Oct. 24).
