Hot-Shooting UT Martin Defeats Southeast

MARTIN, Tenn. – Led by 30 points from Ashia Jones, UT Martin (11-9, 7-0) earned a 96-55 victory over Southeast Missouri (8-13, 1-7) on Saturday afternoon at the Elam Center. The Skyhawks shot 60 percent (37-for-62) from the floor, 56 percent (10-for-18) from 3-point range and had five players score in double figures.
 
Southeast was led by Erin Bollmann, who set a career-high with 20 points, tied a career-best with five steals and grabbed five rebounds. In the second half alone, Bollmann registered 14 points while shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the field.
 
Bollmann is averaging 17.3 points per game since being inserted into the starting lineup for the last three contests. She averages a team-best 10.8 points and is the squad's second-leading rebounder during Ohio Valley Conference play at 7.6 boards per game.
 
Allyson Bradshaw added eight points and three assists for the Redhawks.
 
UT Martin opened the game on a 12-2 run as the Skyhawks connected on six of their first nine shots.
 
UTM would continue shooting the ball well as they pulled ahead 26-11 before Connor King scored on a layup and Yelena Rosado added a steal and breakaway layup on the next two possessions to trim the lead to 26-15 with 9:02 remaining in the first half.
 
Bollmann made a steal on the defensive end then scored on the ensuing offensive possession to cut the deficit to 31-17 with 6:22 left before halftime.
 
With 4:21 left in the first half, Bradshaw drained her 153rd career 3-pointer, making the score 39-20.
 
Olivia Hackmann stole the ball and drained a triple on the other end with 2:36 left in the first half and Kaley Leyhue drained her first 3-point attempt in her return to her hometown with 1:27 before intermission, cutting the UTM lead to 46-26.
 
At halftime, UTM led 48-28, led by 17 points by Ashia Jones. Karisma Tyson added 11 first-half points. The Skyhawks shot 63 percent (19-for-30) from the floor and 56 percent (5-for-9) from beyond the arc during the first 20 minutes.
 
Bollmann led the Redhawks with six points and three steals in the first half while Hackmann added five points. Rosado contributed four points and two assists in the opening half. Southeast was shooting 39 percent (11-for-28) from the field and 33 percent (3-for-9) from long range at the intermission.
 
Bradshaw hit her second triple of the contest and then scored on a driving layup to cut into the lead at 58-37 with 14:33 remaining. She now trails Tarina Nixon by 15 3-pointers for second place (169) in program history.
 
With 13:42 left, Bollmann grabbed an offensive rebound and followed with a layup make the score 61-39. She added another score and drew a foul to draw within 63-43 with 10:42 left.
 
Bollmann drained a 3-pointer with 6:08 left to make the score 80-50.
 
The Redhawks were outscored 48-27 in the second half despite shooting 52 percent (12-for-23) during the final 20 minutes. For the game, Southeast shot 45 percent (23-for-51) from the floor and 29 percent (5-for-17) from 3-point range.
 
UT Martin shot 56 percent (18-for-32) from the field and again went 5-for-9 from beyond the arc in the second half. The Skyhawks outscored Southeast 38-22 in the paint, 18-6 in second-chance points and 29-23 in points off turnovers.
 
Tiara Caldwell recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for UTM while Katie Schubert and Tyson both finished with 11 points. Chelsea Roberts added 10 points and six boards for the Skyhawks.
 
Hackmann finished with seven points for the Redhawks while King scored six points on perfect 3-for-3 shooting. Bollmann became the second Southeast player to score 20 points in a game this season, joining Bradshaw, who scored 21 points vs. Idaho on Dec. 14 at the Glass City Classic in Toledo, Ohio.
 
Southeast will continue its road swing with a matchup at Austin Peay (7-13, 4-3) on Saturday, Jan. 31. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the Dunn Center in Clarksville, Tennessee.
