Quick Kicks

• Southeast Missouri enters Friday's Ohio Valley Conference opener with a 3-3 overall record. The Redhawks are coming off of a 3-0 victory at Arkansas State on Sept. 19. Senior F Breana Beine tied a school record with three goals while freshman GK Kindra Lierz posted her third shutout of the season.

• Southeast is 6-10-3 all-time against Eastern Illinois. The Redhawks have won three of the last four meetings, including a 4-0 triumph on Oct. 27, 2013 in last year's home finale at Houck Stadium in Cape Girardeau. All four goals in that meeting were scored in the first half, including the final two by senior MF/F Kasey Crowden.

About Eastern Illinois: The Panthers are 1-7-1 (.167) and are coming off their first victory of the season vs. Chicago State on Sept. 21. EIU won 2-0 behind two goals from junior F Hannah Miller. Junior GK Emily Hinton notched her first shutout of the season with three saves. Eastern opened the season on a six-match losing streak. They have been outscored by opponents 23-8 and outshot 158-89, including a 158-89 mark in shots on goal. Redshirt junior and Cincinnati transfer F Chris Reed leads the team with four goals and nine points. Miller and senior MF/F Meagan Radloff are tied for second on the team with four points.

Beine Posts Hat Trick, Ties School Record: In last Friday's 3-0 victory at Arkansas State, senior F Breana Beine tied a school record with three goals. She earned the trifecta in the game's first 33 minutes, marking the 10th hat trick in the program's 16-year history and first since F Ashley Runion achieved the feat on Aug. 27, 2010 vs. Alabama A&M. Beine finished second in this week's voting for Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Four Redhawks Named to Falcon Invitational All-Tournament Team: Following the Falcon Invitational hosted by the United States Air Force Academy on Sept. 5-7, four Southeast players earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team that was voted on by the participating coaches. F Breana Beine, F Ashley Brendel, D Valeria Jaramillo and D Christina Rohde all received the honor. Beine and Brendel both scored goals in the 2-0 victory vs. UC Davis while Jaramillo and Rohde led a defensive unit that surrendered just one goal against two formidable opponents.

Lierz Earns First OVC Weekly Recognition: Freshman GK Kindra Lierz was voted Ohio Valley Conference Co-Goalkeeper of the Week following the team's first full weekend of play at the Air Force Academy Falcon Invitational. She posted her second consecutive shutout vs. UC Davis and allowed just one goal at Northern Colorado. Lierz began her collegiate career by going 228:19 before allowing a goal and has posted a shutout in three of her first six career matches.

Redhawks Strike Fast: After seeing the season opener vs. Missouri-St. Louis on Aug. 29 go scoreless for 70-plus minutes, Southeast then scored twice within a 27-second span in the 74th minute. Senior MF Torey Byrd scored the first goal on a penalty kick after senior F Breana Beine was taken down in the box. After play resumed, Byrd then used a header to push the ball ahead to assist sophomore F Natasha Minor, who got the ball around a challenging UMSL goalkeeper who contested the shot near the front edge of the goalie box.

Non-Conference Opener Cancelled: Due to extreme heat, the regular season opener at UT Martin was cancelled on Aug. 24. Scheduled as a non-conference matchup against an Ohio Valley Conference opponent, there have since been no plans announced for a makeup date. The teams will compete in OVC action on Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. from Missouri National Guard Field at Houck Stadium in Cape Girardeau.

Looking Ahead: Southeast returns home next weekend with Ohio Valley Conference matchups against UT Martin on Friday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. and Murray State on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. during Homecoming Weekend. All home contests are played at Missouri National Guard Field at Houck Stadium. Admission is free for students with a valid Southeast ID card.
