Southeast Drops 1-0 Decision at Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – In a match that was scoreless until the 80th minute, Evansville (5-3-2) prevailed over Southeast Missouri (2-3-0) Wednesday evening 1-0 at Arad McCutchan Stadium. MF/F Montana Portenier broke the scoreless tie with her first career goal as she dribbled around Southeast GK Kindra Lierz.
Both teams recorded eight shots in the contest with Southeast holding a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Redhawks also edged out the Purple Aces in corner kicks by a 4-2 margin.
In the first half, each side registered five shots. MF Torey Byrd led the way for Southeast with two shots on goal.
Byrd, F Breana Beine and F Natasha Minor all tied for the game-high with two shots. MF Kaitlin Kuznacic added a shot on goal. Portenier and MF Colleen Dierkes also had a game-best two shots for the Purple Aces.
Lierz finished with one save on the evening. Evansville GK Simone Busby had three stops as she notched her fifth solo and seventh overall shutout of the season.
Southeast concludes non-conference play with a 5 p.m. matchup on Friday at Arkansas State. Ohio Valley Conference play begins with a 3 p.m. start at Eastern Illinois on Sept. 26.
