Quick Kicks

• Southeast Missouri enters Wednesday's contest with a 2-2 overall record. The Redhawks opened the regular season with victories over Missouri-St. Louis and UC Davis before falling in the last two matches at Northern Colorado and vs. Illinois State.

• On Friday evening, Southeast was beaten 3-0 by Illinois State. The Redbirds used a powerful offensive attack to score three times in the first half. The Southeast defense rebounded in the second half to hold the three-time defending Missouri Valley Conference champions scoreless.

• Southeast is 3-2-2 all-time against Evansville. The squads played to a scoreless tie in the last meeting on Sept. 11, 2012 in Cape Girardeau. The Redhawks claimed a 3-0 victory with goals from current Southeast players Torey Byrd and Erin Shulman during their last visit to Evansville on Sept. 2, 2011. Current Redhawk Breana Beine played all 90 minutes of that match with one shot while competing for Evansville.

About Evansville: The Purple Aces are 4-3-2 overall, including a 4-1 mark on their home turf at Arad McCutchan Stadium. After beginning the season by going 3-1, they have gone 1-2-2 in the last five contests. They tied Valparaiso and IUPUI in the last two matches. The four victories came against Austin Peay (8/22), Bowling Green (8/29), Eastern Kentucky (8/31) and Butler (9/5).

Familiar Face: Southeast senior F Breana Beine returns to play at Evansville for the first time since transferring to Southeast. She began her college career by playing two seasons (2010-11) for the Purple Aces. She was named the 2010 Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and earned first-team All-MVC honors when she led the Purple Aces in goals (7), points (16), shots (33), shots on goal (19) and game-winning goals (2). She was named second-team All-MVC following her sophomore season in 2011 when she recorded three goals, two assists, 34 shots and 20 shots on goal.

Four Redhawks Named to All-Tournament Team: Following the Falcon Invitational hosted by the United States Air Force Academy on Sept. 5-7, four Southeast players earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team that was voted on by the participating coaches. F Breana Beine, F Ashley Brendel, D Valeria Jaramillo and D Christina Rohde all received the honor. Beine and Brendel both scored goals in the 2-0 victory vs. UC Davis while Jaramillo and Rohde led a defensive unit that surrendered just one goal against two formidable opponents.

Lierz Earns First OVC Weekly Recognition: Freshman GK Kindra Lierz was voted Ohio Valley Conference Co-Goalkeeper of the Week following the team's first full weekend of play at the Air Force Academy Falcon Invitational. She posted her second consecutive shutout vs. UC Davis and allowed just one goal at Northern Colorado. Lierz began her collegiate career by going 228:19 before allowing a goal.

Redhawks Strike Fast: After seeing the season opener vs. Missouri-St. Louis on Aug. 29 go scoreless for 70-plus minutes, Southeast then scored twice within a 27-second span in the 74th minute. Senior MF Torey Byrd scored the first goal on a penalty kick after senior F Breana Beine was taken down in the box. After play resumed, Byrd then used a header to push the ball ahead to assist sophomore F Natasha Minor, who got the ball around a challenging UMSL goalkeeper who contested the shot near the front edge of the goalie box.

Non-Conference Opener Cancelled: Due to extreme heat, the regular season opener at UT Martin was cancelled on Aug. 24. Scheduled as a non-conference matchup against an Ohio Valley Conference opponent, there have since been no plans announced for a makeup date. The teams will compete in OVC action on Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. from Missouri National Guard Field at Houck Stadium in Cape Girardeau.

Looking Ahead: Southeast concludes non-conference play on Friday with a 5 p.m. matchup at Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark. Ohio Valley Conference play begins on Friday, Oct. 26 with a 3 p.m. start at Eastern Illinois.
