
Track and Field Set for Sam Williams Twilight Qualifier

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – With the Ohio Valley Conference Championship under its belt, the Southeast Missouri track and field team will travel a very limited squad to Emporia, Kansas, for the Sam Williams Twilight Qualifier on Saturday.
The Redhawks will send student-athletes working better their marks in the NCAA West Region. The top-48 marks in each event qualify for the NCAA West Region Preliminary Round in Fayetteville, Arkansas, May 29 through May 31.
Southeast currently has 14 athletes in the top-48 in respective events and will send three individuals of that group. Blake Carter currently ranks 22nd in the long jump with a leap of 7.56 meters while Chris Martin owns the third-best triple jump of 15.84 meters. That mark also ranks ninth in the nation.
Shon Kyle will also be attending the meet, he currently ranks 39th in the discus with a toss of 54.03 meters. He is just one spot out in the shot put, ranking 49th in the shot put with a toss of 17.05 meters.
The Sam Williams Twilight Qualifier is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. with the hammer throw, discus, javelin and long jump beginning the meet.
