Game 2 Box ScoreMARTIN, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri (8-32, 2-18) was swept in a doubleheader by UT Martin (25-24-1, 12-9) Saturday afternoon. The Redhawks lost by scores of 6-1 and 12-6.
UTM held a 1-0 lead through five and a half innings of game one before scoring five in the bottom of the sixth.
Kelsey Dixon and Gabby Glenn each had an RBI-single and Carly Gonzalez drove in two runs on a double to left. Glenn stole home to give the Skyhawks a 6-0 lead.
Southeast avoided the shutout when
Meaghan Touchette scored on an error in the seventh.
Elizabeth Weigand (11-7) went the distance, allowing just one run on five hits. Weigand recorded four strikeouts and issued two walks.
Hannah Durham (2-10) suffered the loss. Durham gave up five runs on five hits, struck out one and walked three in 5.1 innings.
Jamie Woodworth went 2-for-3 to lead Southeast.
A five-run second inning propelled UTM to victory in the nightcap.
After falling behind by two runs in the first, UTM quickly tied the game on a two-RBI double by Casey Vincent.
The Skyhawks widened their lead when they loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the second.
Taylor Manning walked, Lauren Smith singled up the middle and Samantha McClure was hit by a pitch to put runners at every base. Glenn walked on the next play and Manning scored. Gonzalez delivered a two-RBI single after that. Glenn later stole home and Casey Vincent belted a run-scoring double to give UTM a 7-2 lead.
Aided by three UTM errors, Southeast countered with three runs in the top of the third.
Woodworth reached on a throwing error and
Savannah Carpenter and
Haylee Krack each singled. Krack went to second on an error and Woodworth scored.
Chelsea Smith knocked in Carpenter on a base hit and Krack later touched home when
Meaghan Touchette got on via an error to slice the Skyhawks lead to 7-5.
UTM added another run in the fourth and four more in the fifth to polish off the win.
Gonzalez had a run-scoring hit and Deven Wilson smacked a two-RBI single in the fifth inning. The other tally came on a groundout, giving the Skyhawks a 12-5 advantage, as all but one of the runs were unearned.
Lindsey Patterson's solo home run marked the end of all scoring in the top of the sixth. Her third homer of the season went off the scoreboard in left field.
Kelsey Gass nearly homered in earlier in the inning, but was robbed by Kayla Wade on her shot to dead center.
Brooke Kennedy (5-3) picked up the win in relief. Kennedy gave up four runs on five hits, struck out four and walked two in 6.2 innings.
Keaira Schilling (3-14) suffered the loss. Schilling lasted just one inning, allowing six runs and three hits. She struck out three and walked two, as well.
UTM committed four errors and outhit Southeast, 10-7. Gonzalez, Wilson and Vincent each contributed two hits to pave the way.
Patterson and Carpenter had two hits and scored twice to lead the Redhawks.
Southeast, which has lost 14-straight Ohio Valley Conference games, wraps up its series against UTM Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., CT.
