CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (7-25, 2-12) has a four-game homestand against two Ohio Valley Conference East Division foes this week. The Redhawks host OVC leader Jacksonville State (29-12, 13-4) in a doubleheader Friday and Tennessee Tech (15-31, 7-10) in a twin bill Saturday. Start time is Noon, CT, on both days.
Southeast enters the Easter weekend looking to snap a season-long eight-game losing streak. The Redhawks are led by
Savannah Carpenter who is the top hitter in the OVC for the second-straight week. Carpenter is hitting .448 with 11 runs scored, nine doubles, a triple, four home runs and 19 RBI. She is second in the league in slugging (.713) and on-base (.510) percentage, as well.
JSU leads the OVC with 29 wins this season and comes to Cape Girardeau on a three-game winning streak. The Gamecocks are the conference's top hitting (.319) and fielding team (.979 pct.). Sara Borders is the league-leader in hits (54), runs scored (38), RBI (37), home runs (10) and total bases (98). Pitching wise, JSU is fourth among OVC teams with a 2.93 ERA. Tiffany Harbin (12-6) has thrown a team-high eight shutouts and ranks fourth in the OVC with 137 strikeouts. Southeast is 3-29 all-time against the Gamecocks in a series dating back to 2002.
TTU is third in the OVC East. The Golden Eagles have won four of their last five and are hitting .244. Angi Sakamoto boasts a team-best .326 batting average with 20 runs scored, four doubles, a triple, five home runs and 25 RBI. Sakamoto is also TTU's leader in stolen bases (8). The Golden Eagles have won each of their last four meetings with the Redhawks.
