Redhawks Hunt for Sixth OVC Series Victory Against Panthers

Southeast Missouri baseball will play host to Eastern Illinois this weekend. The series will be Thursday through Saturday to accommodate the Easter weekend. The Panthers are sitting at 10th place in the Ohio Valley Conference. Thursday's game will feature a free tailgate at Capaha Park, presented by Hubrew and the Cape Kiwanis Club. Saturday will be Bark in the Park, presented by Mississippi Mutts. All games can be heard live on ESPN 1220 AM. First pitch Thursday will be at 5 p.m.
 
Looking Back
After going 3-1 last week and with a win over Saint Louis Tuesday, the Redhawks have won 11 of their last 12 games. Despite losing 22-4 to Austin Peay on Friday night, the Redhawks bounced back Saturday to defeat the Govs 10-9 after a 12-inning affair. Southeast clinched the series with a 19-7 win over Austin Peay on Sunday. The Redhawks have won five of their six conference series this season. The Redhawks sit atop the league standings and are two and a half games out in from the Jacksonville State.
 
Hurts So Good
Jason Blum is quickly catching up to Trenton Moses for being hit by a pitch in the span of a career. The record, held by Moses, is 49 while Blum, a junior, has been clunked 44 times, second in the career standings. Cole Bieser is also rising the in the ranks of earning a bruise as he is now ranked tied for fith with 25. Blum and Bieser are tied for the team lead with 12 this season. They are each one away from cracking the top-ten list for being hit in a single season.
 
Speed Racers
The Redhawks have made their presence on the base paths known this season. Southeast leads the OVC in stolen bases as a team with 70. 14 more than Jacksonville State, who has the second most. As of Monday, the Redhawks' 67 stolen bags is the fifth-best in the nation. Jason Blum ranks second in the league with 166 while Cole Bieser is sixth this season with 10. Bieser is also one stolen base away from cracking the career stolen bases list.
 
We See You A Lot
With his appearance on the mound Saturday against Austin Peay, Christian Hull broke the top-ten in career appearances list with 55 in his three-year career thus far. The record is 76 appearances set by Jason Swearingen.
 
Statistical Rankings
As of Monday, April 14, the Redhawks' .310 team batting average ranks tenth in the nation. The Redhawks have turned the fourth-most double plays (43) in the nation. Southeast is the eighth-highest run producing team in the country with 269 runs while Southeast ranks seventh in scoring (7.7 runs/game). The team .430 slugging percentage is ranked 16th. The Redhawks are also ranked fifth in stolen bases (67). Matt Tellor is tied for ninth nationally with nine home runs while Derek Gibson (44) is ranked sixth in RBI and Tellor is 11th with 41. Gibson also ranks eighth in sacrifice flies with six this season
 
What's on Tap?
The Redhawks' home-and-home series with Southern Illinois will come to a close when the Redhawks cross the Mississippi River for Carbondale, Ill. on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. Southeast will then make the long haul to Jacksonville, Ala. for an OVC series with the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, who currently sit in second place in the league.
