Redhawks Lose Series Finale to SIU Edwardsville, 3-0

Box Score Box Score

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Haley Chambers recorded 11 strikeouts and threw a complete game four-hit shutout to lead SIU Edwardsville (20-18, 12-3) to a 3-0 win over Southeast Missouri (7-25, 2-12) Sunday afternoon at Cougar Field.

With the victory, SIUE completed a three-game sweep of the Redhawks.

Chambers again had her way with Southeast, retiring the Redhawks in order during the second, third and fifth innings. Southeast left seven runners on base, with only two making it past second.

SIUE struck first with two runs in the bottom of the second when Rachel Keller knocked in both Brittany Toney and Kayla Riggs on a two-out single to left.

Three innings later, Rebecca Gray led off the fifth with a double and quickly scored on Keller's ensuing base hit to center, pushing the Cougars lead to 3-0.

Then came the rain and the game went into a delay in the bottom of the sixth inning. Play resumed an hour and a half later and Southeast managed to bring the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh. Chambers, however, posted back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.

Chambers (11-10) faced 28 hitters and walked just two in her second win of the series.

Aubrey Denno (3-6) took the loss. Denno gave up three runs on six hits, while walking two and striking out two in six innings.

Nicole Deering, Savannah Carpenter, Chelsea Smith and Kelsey Gass each had one hit.

Keller went 2-for-2 with three RBI to lead SIUE.

Southeast, which has now lost eight in a row, was swept for the sixth time this season.

The Redhawks return home to host Jacksonville State in a doubleheader on Apr. 18.
