CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – After a successful outdoor debut, the Southeast Missouri track and field team travels to Memphis, Tenn., for the Memphis Invitational Saturday.
The Redhawks had most of the field and sprint events at the Alabama Relays but only sent a limited distance squad. Head coach Eric Crumpecker said that the distance squad will be in full force at Memphis.
"We will have a full team at Memphis with our distance runners," Crumpecker said. "Overall at the meet we will look to make improvements on what we did last week. We are hoping to get better."
One of the most successful athletes last week at the Alabama Relays was junior Chris Navarro after winning the decathlon. He was named the Ohio Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week for his accomplishment.
"Everybody is always excited when a team member gets an award," Crumpecker said. "Chris had a great weekend.
"Now we are looking forward to getting the full team together for this weekend."
The Memphis Invitational is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with field events. A rolling schedule for track events begins at 12:30 p.m. with the 100-meter dash.
The Redhawks will be joined at the Memphis Invitational by fellow OVC member SIUE along with Ole Miss, Arkansas State, Jackson State amongst several other schools.
