The Redhawks travel to Eastern Kentucky (11-11, 1-1) for a Noon, CT, doubleheader Saturday before heading to Morehead State (5-14, 1-1) for an 11 a.m. twin bill Sunday.
Southeast, which has lost 10 of its last 11 contests, is looking to snap a six-game losing streak.
The Redhawks continue their busy spring break stretch. Southeast has played five games in the last three days, going 0-5 in those matchups. The Redhawks lost to North Dakota State (Mar. 18) at home and were swept in back-to-back doubleheaders at Indiana State (Mar. 19) and Evansville (Mar. 20).
Third baseman
Savannah Carpenter is one of eight players in the OVC hitting .400 or better this season. Carpenter boasts a .407 batting average as Southeast's only active player currently hitting over .300. As a team, the Redhawks are hitting .243 and had a combined 19 hits (3.8 per game) over their last five matchups.
Pitching wise, Southeast's young staff enters the weekend ranked 11th in the league with a 5.74 ERA.
EKU is presently second in the OVC East behind Jacksonville State. The Colonels are the OVC's second-best pitching team with a 2.85 ERA. EKU, which owns a league-high 166 strikeouts, is led by Leanna Pittsenbarger. Pittsenbarger (8-6) is the conference's strikeout leader with 120 Ks in 86.2 innings. She has a 1.53 ERA and has thrown nine complete games and five shutouts in 16 appearances. Opponents are hitting just .129 against Pittensbarger, as well.
Meanwhile, MSU is last in the OVC in hitting (.195) and pitching (6.03 ERA). Defensively, the Eagles have committed only one error in their last seven games.
The Redhawks are 17-6 all-time in OVC-openers and have started league play with a victory four-straight years.
