Softball Drops a Pair of Contests at the All-Missouri Cancer Classic

Savannah Carpenter went 6-for-7 at the plate on Saturday.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri softball team dropped a pair of contests Saturday in the All-Missouri Cancer Classic at the Southeast Softball Complex.
 
The Redhawks (4-7) fell 8-0 in game one to Missouri State (11-4) and 7-4 in game two to Saint Louis (8-3).
 
After Saint Louis jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Redhawks answered with a four-run second inning.
 
With the bases loaded and one out, Savannah Carpenter knocked a grand slam over the left field fence to give Southeast the 4-1 lead.
 
After scoreless third and fourth innings, the Billikens answered with a four-run fifth inning as Elizabeth Everingham hit a two run double. Brianna Lore followed with a two-run single to give Saint Louis the lead.
 
Carpenter finished 3-for-4 with four RBI's for the Redhawks.
 
Keaira Schilling took the loss for the Redhawks, pitching 4.2 innings giving up five runs on five hits. Laney Kneib was the winning pitcher for Saint Louis.
 
Against Missouri State Carpenter went 2-for-3 for the Redhawks while Lindsey Patterson, Rachael Duncan and Kelsey Gass each went 1-for-3.
 
Missouri State used a complete game effort from Chelsea Jones while scoring three runs in the first inning. Aubrey Denno was charged with the loss for Southeast.
 
The Redhawks return to the diamond for a three-day tournament, hosting Northern Iowa, South Dakota State and IUPUI. The first game is Friday against Northern Iowa at 2 p.m.
