CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri track & field program hosted their lone home indoor meet of the season Friday. Southeast looked good on their home turf setting multiple personal records and two school records. Kayla Gutierrez set a new record in the women's weight throw while Blake Smith tied the school record in the 55m dash.
Altogether for the women, Southeast had nine first-place victories while the men tallied eight.
For the men, Smith's time of 6.19 seconds tied a school record in the 55m dash. Kendrick Farr's time of 6.38 was good enough for second in the event. Farr also took first in the men's 200m with a time of 22.95.
Tyler Holmes took the top-spot in the 400m event with a mark of 52.92. The men's mile went to Tyson Stoverink (4:33.09) while Redhawk alumni Chris Loseman, who ran unattached, was the top-finisher in the men's 3000m.
Ayonna Cartwright's time of 7.07 in the women's 55m dash was good enough for first-place while Cheyenne Tunti took first in the 200m (26.56). Melanie Lacey was the top-finisher in the women's 3000m with a time of 10:45.73. Kim Moye's 9.06 second 55m hurdles earned her first-place.
In the jumping events, Reggie Miller jumped his way to a first-place finish in the high jump (6'8.75") while Smith also won the long jump Friday evening with a distance of 25'4". Blake Carter took second in the event (24'11.75"). Chris Martin's 50'0.75" triple jump earned him first-place.
For the women, Abi Sowash posted the best high jump (5'5.25) while Jessica Brown's 19'0.5" long jump took first.
For the Redhawk throwers, Kevin Farley placed second in the shot put with a heave of 58'3". Redhawk alum Josh Uchtman threw a 59'9.25" shot. Farley did take first in the weight throw Friday with a distance of 60'3.75".
Gutierrez's 65'7" weight throw was well ahead of the standing school record of 62'4". Courtney Gapelu won the women's shot put with a throw of 50'11.5".
Southeast Missouri will travel to Nashville, Tenn. next week for the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Tennessee State. Head coach Eric Crumpecker is very confident in his teams heading to the championships.
"We came out of tonight with a lot of personal records along with a couple school records so that tells me we have a lot of momentum heading in to OVC's. We have a lot of confidence in our performances and I think that will roll over to next week," Crumpecker said.
