CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri volleyball team fell to the Murray State Racers Saturday in three sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-16).

Southeast falls to 10-18, 6-8 in Ohio Valley Conference play. Murray State climbs to 22-4, 13-1 OVC.

With the win, Murray State clinches the OVC regular-season title and the right to host the OVC Tournament. They will be the No. 1 seed in the tournament.

Coming off a three-set loss the night before and facing adversity due to injuries, the Redhawks came out ready to play.

Southeast took an early lead in the opening stanza, leading as much as three points. Murray was right there with Southeast as they tied the set at 10 all. Murray began pulling ahead but it wasn't too much for the Redhawks as they retied it at 17. Tied at 19, Murray pulled ahead once again, but Southeast was there to tie it at 23. A Racer kill and a Redhawk error sealed the deal for Murray in set one, 25-23. Southeast put up six blocks in the first set alone.

The Redhawks led much of the second set. A seven-point run early in the set put Southeast up 9-2. Murray used a run of their own to pull within two but Southeast was able to fend off the onset attack. Down 23-21, Murray used a four-point run to steal away the lead and the set from the Redhawks, 25-23, and took a 2-0 lead in the match. Southeast outhit Murray .261 to .212 in set two.

A set win away from an OVC Championship, Murray State came out of the intermission ready to put it away. An early four-point run put Murray ahead. The Racers continued to build on the early lead all the way to a 25-16 set three win.

Taylor Masterson tallied seven kills in the match with a .438 hitting percentage and three blocks. Keeve laid down six kills in the match while Rohlfing had five.
Nzingha Clarke put up seven total blocks on the afternoon.

Freshman
Carlie Cuffle, who played Libero for Southeast Saturday, had 14 digs.
Haley Roberts stepped in as a setter and tallied 11 assists, a new career-high.

As a whole, the Redhawks finished with 13 team blocks against the Racers, who put up one.

The Redhawks will play their final home match of the 2014 season Tuesday at 6:30 when they host the UT Martin Skyhawks.Â
