MOREHEAD, Ky. – Southeast Missouri picked up a close five-set victory Saturday evening at Ohio Valley Conference foe, Morehead State (29-27, 17-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-11).

"We came to play today," said head coach Julie Yankus. "While we did have more hitting errors than we usually do, our plan was to be aggressive and go out swinging. We have started some matches playing tentatively but we really came out to play today. I'm so proud of our effort and so happy for our seniors to finally get a win at Morehead."

Tied at five in the first set, Southeast used five-straight points to open a nice lead on the Eagles. The Redhawks were able to stay out in front and draw set point at 24-21 but two Morehead kills and a Redhawk error tied it at 24. As soon as one side would have an advantage, the other would retie it. Southeast outlasted the Eagles and took set one 29-27 in the longest set of the season.

Morehead got out to an a 5-1 lead in the second set and used it to roll to a 25-17 win to tie up the match at one set apiece going into the intermission.

Both sides found themselves tied at 21 all. The Redhawks used three points to draw set point and wrapped up another close set, 25-23, taking a 2-1 lead in the match. Senior outside hitter Andrea Baylin recorded her 1,000th career dig in the third set.

Morehead may have led the entire fourth set but the Redhawks remained within striking distance the whole way. The score was tied a number of times but the Redhawks just couldn't pull ahead as the Eagles took set four, 25-20, forcing a fifth and final set.

The Eagles jumped ahead in the fifth set and led 8-6 going into the end change. Southeast tied it at eight and used the momentum to stay with the Eagles. Tied at 11, the Redhawks put up four-straight points to take the set, 15-11, and the match.
