EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Craig Munie and
Rebekah Lawson each won their races to spearhead a pair of first-place performances by the Southeast Missouri cross country program at the SIUE Cross Country Challenge on Friday.
"Both teams ran exceptionally well today," said head coach
Ryan Lane. "I thought we made a big improvement from two weeks ago and I am excited to see what we can do at our bigger meets later in the season."
Lawson won her second race of the 2013 campaign with a time of 17:59. Besides Lawson, five other Redhawks turned in top-ten times:
Angela Sumner (second, 18:26),
Madalyn Stichnot (fourth, 19:01),
Mary Dohogne (fifth, 19:05),
Melanie Lacey (eighth, 19:14), and
Laura Chavez (ninth, 19:15).
Lindsey Seabaugh (19:23) and
Megan Parks (19:26) placed just outside the top-ten in 11
th and 12
th places, respectively.
Maria Trowbridge finished Friday's race in 20:18 to place 22
nd while
Madeline Gaul rounded out the Redhawks in 38
th with a time of 23:04.
Meet hosts SIUE came in second place overall with Bellarmine finishing out the top-three.
On the men's side, Munie finished with a time of 25:14.
Charles Johnson (25:52),
Ryan Anderson (26:23), and
Shane Brown (26:28) were the other top-ten finishes for the men, coming in fourth, ninth and tenth, respectively.
Marc Maton (12
th, 26:34) and
Tyler Holmes (15
th, 26:44) rounded out the top-twenty for Southeast.
Colten Strotheide (24
th, 27:21),
Andrew Gordon (28
th, 27:56),
Tyson Stoverink (29
th, 28:07),
Sean Brown (39
th, 28:51), and
Cole Ross (46
th, 30:20) all contributed to the men's first-place victory.
Much like the women's race, SIUE came in second-place with Bellarmine coming in third.
The Redhawks will take part in the Saluki Challenge Saturday, Sept. 21. in Carbondale, Ill.
